La poesía de José Elgarresta, definida por Miguel Galanes como "una continua lucha contra la nada y la muerte" y por Manuel Rico como la escrita por "un poeta que duda e interroga al mundo", es siempre un hallazgo de ironía e intensidad. La poesía de Elgarresta es demasiado rápida para ser olvidada y tiene un cuchillo demasiado afilado para no herirnos. Esta obra ofrece una visión crítica de la sociedad que resulta más actual incluso que cuando se publicó por primera vez (1977), aunque varios de sus poemas fueron publicados en revistas universitarias de U. S. A. y en una antología (Alan F. Pater, 1986-88), que recogía una selección de los poemas extranjeros más destacados publicados en la prensa americana y Canadiense en el citado período 1986-1988. La presente edición incorpora un prólogo magistral de María Jesús Mingot, explicando el significado y valor del libro en el panorama literario contemporáneo.
About the Author: José Elgarresta nació en Madrid en 1945. Su infancia transcurre entre Madrid y San Sebastián. Estudia Derecho y Administración de Empresas en I.C.A.D.E. En 1977 publica el libro de poesía Monólogos, e irrumpe con fuerza en el panorama de la poesía española. A raíz de esto colabora con varios medios, destaca "Cuadernos para la Libertad", del periódico YA. Dos años después publica Grito y Piedra, le siguen Raíces en la niebla (1980)Párpado y Hierba(1982) y en 1987 La peligrosa ternura, en la prestigiosa editorial de Ángel Caffarena, número 100 de su colección Guadalhorce. En 1990 publica Fugas, en 1991 El Rey, una de sus obras con mas difusión. En 1993 se le concede el Premio Europa en Pisa (Italia) por el conjunto de su obra y viaja a Argentina donde ofrece varias lecturas. Alli se reedita El Rey y publica Poemas Porteños(1995), que lo convierte en el primer poeta español editado en la prestigiosa editorial Tierra Firme. El gran poeta argentino Esteban Peicovich lo describe como "animal furtivo y cazador de sí mismo. Ejemplar encapsulado que, en medio del tormento, emite señales de amor y anuncios de vuelo". De regreso a España publica Tierra de nadie, un libro que lo sitúan entre los mejores del año. En 1997 aparece T, compuesta por tres poemas que Elgarresta considera fundamental en su trayectoria poética. En 1997 publica Confesiones de un ventrílocuo, y un año más tarde Poemas a pesar de mí mismo, en Ediciones Vitruvio que en el año 2000 publica sus obras completas, Poesía (1975-2000), prologado por Miguel Galanes; en 2010 aparece la segunda edición de este libro. Ha sido traducido al francés, al italiano y al inglés. En manuscritos.com, se ha editado una edición bilingüe de Monólogos. En 2004 publica Derecho de asilo y Lo que no somos, en 2009 El sacerdote Invierno y en 2011 Escritos en la zona oscura, premiado por la Asociación Española de Editores de Poesía.En 2012 publica Instantáneas de un rostro infinito y en 2013 Cazzoas, ambas en Alacena Roja. En 2014 El mar es un corazón salvaje en Vitruvio. En la misma editorial, en 2.015, Solo los dioses nunca duermen. En 2017 En el corazón del aire (antología) Su obra en prosa comenzó en 1979 con El suplantador de personalidades y otros cuentos, en 1984 El país de ninguna parte (cuentos infantiles), en 1991 la novela juvenil Luz en la niebla. A finales de 2.004 Cuentos ejemplares. En 2005 Cutrelandia, la republica de las letras y en 2006 Cuentos ácidos y Cutrelandia II. El diario del Sepulturero.
