Existe una radical diferencia entre la vida espiritual orientada por la creencia, de aquella que tiene su fundamento en la experiencia. Pero la creencia es el camino a la experiencia. Del mismo modo que la duda precede a la creencia, la fe está antes que la experiencia de lo divino. La mera creencia se transforma en fe cuando se la lleva a la práctica, cuando se la vive. Y si esta práctica es sostenida de manera perseverante, se accede a la experiencia. Cuando se vive la experiencia de lo divino, ya no se cree, se sabe. Se vive en la intimidad del corazón la prueba irrefutable, se instala la certeza. Esta forma de evidencia es personal y aunque intente transmitirse, solo puede traducirse. Si alguien se siente estancado en su vida espiritual, debe revisar la conducta, su práctica de vida, es decir la coherencia entre lo que hace y la fe que profesa. Si digo que creo en Cristo y no intento poner por obra su doctrina, lo más seguro es que antes o después, pierda la fe. La vida espiritual no es lo mismo que ir de compras, en donde uno pone algo ‒dinero‒, y recibe algo a cambio ‒el objeto‒.
