Dieses Buch enthält Texte von Missionar Dieter Mascher (1937-2015), die er zusammengestellt und als Datei hinterlassen hat mit dem ausdrücklichen Wunsch, dass sie veröffentlicht werden. Dieter Mascher hat über fünfzig Jahre im Nordwesten Südafrikas gelebt, hat die Sprache der Tswana Bevölkerung nicht nur fließend gesprochen, sondern auch über dreißig Jahre gelehrt. Pastor I. Motswasele ein Kollegen von Dieter Mascher, der ihn seit seiner Ankunft in Südafrika (1964) kannte und mit ihm im Gespräch geblieben ist, schildert Dieter Mascher aus der Sicht der Tswanas. Dieter hatte viele Spitznamen, einer davon erscheint im Buchtitel und auch im Beitrag von Pastor I. Motswasele: "moetabosigo", der nächtliche Besucher. Kulturell sind Besuche in der Dunkelheit nicht üblich. Dieter Mascher hatte als Pastor/Missionar hohes Ansehen bei seinen Kollegen und Kolleginnen und bei Gemeinden und Kirchenvorständen. Wenn er abends kam, wurde das akzeptiert, dennoch zeigt der Spitzname "Moetabosigo" (der, der im Dunkeln kommt), dass es für die Tswanas etwas Kurioses war. Mehrere Texte in diesem Buch beschäftigen sich mit dem Thema Sprache oder damit, wie eine afrikanische Sprache gelernt werden sollte. Einige sind geschrieben von ehemaligen Sprachschülern und -schülerinnen, die bei Dieter Tswana gelernt haben. Frau Prof. Zerbian, heute Professorin für Englische Sprachwissenschaft an der Universität Stuttgart, war eine von ihnen. Dieter Maschers Gedanken über die Bedeutung des Lernens und Lehrens von afrikanischen Sprachen kommt in den Texten 4 und 4.1 zum Ausdruck. Ein zweites großes Anliegen von Dieter war es, die Laien in der Kirche zu stärken und zuzurüsten. Mündige Christen im Sinne des "Priestertums aller Gläubigen" brauchen Gebet, geistliche Impulse und Zeiten der Zurückgezogenheit. Die Texte zum Thema Gebet und die Texte über den Laienmissionar thematisieren dieses Anliegen. Zwei Texte "Missionstrategien - Perspektiven aus der Geschichte" und "Sol Tshekisho Plaatje" zeigen
