Choose a piece of string about 15 feet long (8 meters) and cut it in half. You'll need two sticks about 3 inches (8 centimeters) long, one stick about 4 inches (10 centimeters) long, and one stick about 7 inches (18 centimeters) long. Measure out the length of each stick, and use a ruler or specific measurement tool to make sure you don't have a fraction of an inch worth of string left over on either end. If you do, wrap the extra piece around the rod so that it's not an integral part of the design.
