Zu diesem Zweck verknupft er die Grundpfeiler dieser modernen (okonomischen) Ansatze mit den Prinzipien der Geschichte, wie sie Johann Gustav Droysen in seinem "Grundriss der Geschichte" skizziert hat, und mit Rahmen und Rahmungsmethodik als wesentlichen Werkzeugen fur eine "kommunikative Wende" in der Geschichtswissenschaft, um "etische" und "emische" Perspektiven mit historischem Quellenmaterial zu verbinden. - Kathryn Kelleys Studie uber "Trouble Brewing in Old Babylonian Mesopotamia" versucht, die Gesetzgebung in 108 des Codex Hammurapi aus mehreren Perspektiven zu verstehen, indem sie die Geschichte der Bierhandlerin im Lichte babylonischer rechtlicher, literarischer und wirtschaftlicher Traditionen nachzeichnet. - Thibaud Nicolas versucht zu erklaren, wie ama, der mesopotamische Sonnengott, im wirtschaftlichen und finanziellen Bereich agierte; auch wenn die alten Mesopotamier wahrscheinlich nicht an einen rationalen Homo oeconomicus glaubten, mochte dieser Aufsatz zeigen, dass der Sonnengott und seine Paredra Aya oft auf logische und rationale Weise handelten, wenn sie Silber verliehen, verhandelten und die Bedurftigen versorgten. - Daniel Silvermintz legt dar, dass eine genaue Lekture der Passage uber die "gesunde Stadt", die in Platons Republik 369b-372e beschrieben wird, zeigt, dass alle wichtigen politischen Vorschlage nicht von Sokrates, sondern vom akquisitiven Adeimantos bestimmt wurden; wahrend Sokrates die Stadt als Subsistenzwirtschaft begreift, setzt Adeimantus wirtschaftliche Institutionen fur Produktion und Verteilung an, die die Fahigkeit der Burger untergraben, ihren Konsum auf das Notwendigste zu beschranken. - Lothar Willms argumentiert, dass Platon und Adam Smith zwei unterschiedliche Modi wirtschaftlicher und sozialer Rationalitat reprasentieren und dass Smiths Modus bei den antiken Stoikern keine Entsprechung findet. - Bertram Schefold vergleicht die Konzepte der Landpacht im traditionellen China und im vormodernen Europa (insbesondere in Deutschland). - Roland Ferenczi diskutiert den alten sudindischen Staat der Ceras zusammen mit seinen monarchischen Merkmalen und seiner herausragenden Stellung im indo-romischen Handel. - Weitere Studien widmen sich wirtschaftlichen Konzepten in der antiken israelitischen Jubilaumsgesetzgebung, dem Horten von Reichtum in der antiken Okonomie und der chinesischen Qin-Han-Politik im Rahmen der Neuen Institutionenokonomie (NIE).
