Sie zeigt dazu primäre und sekundäre Anzeichen von Mobbing auf und beschreibt Interventionsmöglichkeiten. Seit jeher tritt "seelische Gewalt" in unterschiedlichen Ausprägungen sowie in allen Gesellschaften auf: Schwächere werden von vermeintlich Stärkeren schikaniert und gequält. Zahllose Forschungen zu dieser Thematik belegen, dass dieses Phänomen - das gemeinhin als Mobbing bekannt ist - in unserer Schul- und Arbeitswelt in den letzten Jahren enorm zugenommen hat. Unbestritten ist, dass die Arbeits- und Lebensbedingungen in der modernen, globalisierten Industriegesellschaft Mobbing in umfangreicherem Ausmaß begünstigen als es früher der Fall war. Das trifft auch auf den Bildungsbereich zu. Schule und Unterricht stellen einen emotionsstarken Kontext dar. Das Ziel der Schulentwicklung ist, dass sich die Lernenden und ihre Lehrpersonen im schulischen Lebens- und Arbeitsraum wohl fühlen. Das sensible Thema Mobbing erfährt mit diesem Hintergrund besondere Bedeutung. So ist Mobbing an Schulen zu einem Massenphänomen geworden. Die Gewalt reicht von Beschimpfen bis hin zum Erpressen, Schlagen und Treten. Inwiefern Mobbing in quantitativer Weise den schulischen Bereich tatsächlich betrifft, belegt eine Studie aus dem Jahr 2009: Fast jeder dritte Schüler ist in unterschiedlichen Ausprägungen Opfer von Mobbing. Darunter fallen gemäß Olweus etwa 40% der Schulkinder auf die Grundschule und 60% auf die weiterführenden Schulen.
