Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: Nach einer repräsentativen Erhebung aus dem Jahr 2001 waren zu dieser Zeit 2,7 Prozent der deutschen Gesamtbevölkerung von Mobbing betroffen. Werden auch die bereits abgeschlossenen Mobbingfälle hinzugerechnet, war nahezu jede neunte Person (11,3 Prozent) schon langfristigen feindseligen Handlungen am Arbeitsplatz ausgesetzt. Zudem geht aus einigen Studien eine durchschnittliche Mobbingdauer von mehr als 12 Monaten hervor. „Mobbing", „Bossing" (Schikane durch den Vorgesetzten) oder „Psychoterror am Arbeitsplatz" sind Begriffe, die in den vergangenen Jahren in Zusammenhang mit spektakulären Vorfällen durch die Medien gingen. Mobbing verursacht sowohl in Deutschland als auch in anderen Ländern enorme volkswirtschaftliche Kosten. Der englische Terminus „Mobbing" stammt vom englischen Verb „to mob", welches „herfallen über, angreifen, attackieren" bedeutet. Der „Mob" als epistemologischer Ursprung ist in verschiedenen Sprachen zu finden, geht auf den lateinischen Begriff „mobile vulgus" zurück und bedeutet sinngemäß aufgewiegelte Volksmenge, Pöbel, unorganisierte soziale Massengruppierung mit sehr geringem oder völlig fehlendem Organisationsgrad, in der mit hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit aggressives, meist zerstörerisches Verhalten auftritt Der Begriff „Mobbing" umschreibt negative Handlungen, die ein Mobbingopfer an seiner Arbeitsstätte durch einen oder mehrere Mobbingtäter erfährt. Im Mobbingverlauf wird das Opfer unter Umständen sozial ausgegrenzt, indem es schikaniert, isoliert, zur Aufgabe seiner beruflichen Position gedrängt oder sogar komplett aus dem Arbeitsprozess bzw. der Gemeinschaft gerissen wird. Bossingmethoden erstrecken sich vom Vorwurf des Betrugs über die Forderung von unerfüllbaren Leistungen bis hin zur anhaltenden Verunglimpfung der Fähigkeiten von Mitarbeitern, um diese aus ihrem Arbeitsverhältnis zu drängen.
