Mit zehn Thesen zeigt dieses Buch, was sich in der Kirche andern muss und wie das geht. Es ist eine mitreissende Forderung, dass Mission wieder die hochste Prioritat hat. Und sie ist eine Einladung an alle, die sich nicht damit abfinden wollen, dass der Glaube verdunstet - der eigene Glaube und der der Welt. Die Initiatoren Johannes Hartl, Bernhard Meuser und Karl Wallner haben selbst zur Feder gegriffen, oder sie haben engagierte Vertreter der Erneuerungsbewegungen gebeten, die Praambel und die zehn Thesen von Mission Manifest zu erlautern. Dazu Stellung genommen haben Michael Pruller, Markus Wittal, P. Karl Wallner OCist, Sophia Kuby, Maxi Oettingen, Marie-Sophie Maasburg, Martin Iten, Katharina Fassler-Maloney und P. Hans Buob Sac. Die Autoren und Initiatoren des Mission Manifest leben und arbeiten seit Jahren im Herzen kirchlicher Aufbruche; sie verbindet die Sehnsucht, dass die Kirche sich nachhaltig verandert, damit sie bleibt, was sie von Jesus her ist. Sie sind sich sicher: Das, was die Kirche jetzt braucht, ist das, was ihr immer schon aus verhangnisvollen Verstrickungen heraushalf: Bekehrung, Gebet, Mut fur ungewohnliche Losungen, unbefangenes, gewinnendes Zugehen auf Nichtchristen, eine Neuorientierung anhand der Heiligen Schrift, aber vor allem die Hinwendung zu Gott - und zwar in realem Vertrauen, dass ER die versiegten Bache im Sudland (Ps 126,4) wieder fullen kann und fullen wird, wenn er angerufen wird. Zwei bis dato ziemlich nachrangige Begriffe - davon sind sie uberzeugt - werden fur die Zukunft der Kirche immer wichtiger werden: die Begriffe Junger und Mission. Eine Kirche ohne Nachfolger Jesu (= Junger) ist ein Unding, ebenso wie es ein Unding ist, wenn die Kirche ihre Mission nicht mehr kennt, oder noch direkter formuliert: ihren Daseinszweck verloren hat. Deshalb haben die sechs Initiatoren in community writing das Mission Manifest verfasst. Es soll die Krafte sammeln, die an eine Kirche mit missionarischer Ausstrahlung glauben und heute schon ideenreich an der Weitergabe des Glaubens, also an einer jungen, wachsenden Kirche arbeiten. Noch leben die, denen die Lust an Gott und die Lust an der Kirche auch in schwierigeren Zeiten nicht vergangen ist, haufig in der Atomisierung; sie wirken da und dort, manchmal auch isoliert in Gemeinden und Gemeinschaften, wo man noch nicht versteht, dass eine andere Zeit gekommen ist. Das muss so nicht bleiben. Mission Manifest will diese Leute ermutigen, zusammenfuhren und vernetzen. Es ist Zeit, dass man den Scheinwerfer auf die Initiativen richtet, in denen die Kirche aus sich herausgeht (Papst Franziskus). Es ist gut, sie ans Licht zu heben und ihnen engagierte Helfer und Gleichgesinnte zuzufuhren.
