About the Book

Stuck for three months due to rain, the Prussians are bored in the abandoned castle when they arrive. The owner had left without taking anything and left all kinds of things: paintings, vases, porcelains, objects that the Prussians broke for fun. After a silent lunch, they started drinking and smoking and the baron offered to organize a party with ladies, the major agreed and a coachman was sent to pick them up. To pass the time, Miss Fifi offered to make the mine, it was one of his inventions: he took a teapot from China, filled it with gunpowder, put a piece of amadou on it, lit it and ran to put it in the next room. They waited and an explosion shook the castle. They ran to see the result: pieces of porcelain all over the room. They opened the windows. Since their arrival, only the bell tower made a peaceful protest: it refused to ring the church bell, except for that, it refused nothing to the Prussians. Only Miss Fifi wanted to force the bell tower to ring. They kept busy until dinner. At dinner, they heard the car coming. Five girls got out of the car, they were assigned according to their rank: - Pamela to the commander- Blondine to the captain- Amanda to the lieutenant- Eva to Second Lieutenant- Rachel to Miss FifiThe commander wanted to act after the meal. During the meal, Miss Fifi bit Rachel, she was angry but could not act. But suddenly the lieutenant shouted "To our victories over France," and all the women kept quiet. Miss Fifi spoke of the cowardice of French men. Then Rachel rebelled when he said "to us all the women of France too" because they were whores and not women. And she stuck a knife down Miss Fifi's throat.Immediately afterwards, she fled. The major organized a pursuit with many men. Two soldiers were killed and three others wounded. But Rachel was not found. Then the Prussians terrorized the inhabitants and smothered the deal. The major ordered the priest to ring the bell. Against all odds, the priest accepted and from that moment on the bell continued to ring. All the inhabitants thought she was bewitched. She is only a poor girl who lived upstairs, secretly fed by the two men (priest and priest). She stayed there until the Prussians left. Then the priest, with the baker's tank, led her to the gates of Rouen (the priest kissed her) and she returned to the public house where her boss thought she was dead. She was pulled out by a patriot without prejudice who married her and she became a Lady.
