En Mira mi alma desnuda se funden metáforas tropicales con símbolos europeos marcando las pautas de una temática amorosa. Siendo el amor y el desamor la temática principal de la obra, en la que se puede sentir la voz venezolanista de una mujer que se siente profundamente caraqueña: Mil veces he colgado el pendón que dice: T.Q.Q.J / desde lo más alto del Ávila, pero que a su vez está marcada por una gran influencia europeísta, por lo que se nota como recurre frecuentemente a personajes como Van Gohn, a enumeraciones de trenes, a menciones de museos europeos y a figuras mitológicas como Teseo, Ariadna, Icaro: Descubrí en los laberintos el camino de la vida. / (Por cierto, Ariadna hizo trampa para salvar a Teseo). /Habito en la trampa. Así su poesía se centra en el paralelismo que se da entre la visión de dos mundos con realidades diferentes. La estructura rígida y fuerte de lo clásico europeo frente a lo vibrante y espontáneo del continente americano, enmarcado en una poesía amatoria con toques eróticos. La misma mujer que se ve desde dos visiones distintas, la que la libera y la que la ata. Fijé residencia en los restos de una educación virginal/ Deformada por América /Domando el deseo de ese tacto entusiasmado. Luisa alude a la rigidez educativa de la patria de su padre, apegada al catolicismo que busca al dominar el deseo y la pasión femenina enterrar temores ancestrales. La niña reafirma en sus versos una educación férrea proveniente de su herencia italiana que la cuestiona. Es en América que se libera, va a la universidad, se casa y se divorcia, vive sus primeros amores inocentes, los oficiales y los clandestinos, como le dice a su hija en el poema que le dedica: ¿Cómo le explico?/ sus caderas se van amoldando a la vida/ y sus ojos y su risa... Pareciera afirmar que el amor ocurre simplemente, es algo inevitable para la mujer, la cual repetirá la historia femenina familiar: No será otra historia de amor que termine mal / sobrevendrá la misma / larga, infinita, interminable. Sus ideas sobre lo femenino aluden a la mentalidad de una época claramente machista, la cual para ella no proviene de lo masculino sino que por el contrario se afianza en la madre como eje: Se adosará al sentimiento / crecerá lumpen del amor, / como su abuela y su madre. De esta manera la mujer se presenta como condenada a vivir una historia de amor que inevitablemente la conducirá al dolor: Tocará los extremos, bailará encubiertos boleros/ llorará las mismas lágrimas. (Valeriano,2004, 9), permaneciendo en un mundo cerrado a la espera de conseguir el reconocimiento de un hombre, sin quien pareciera no tener manera de dejar de padecer, la felicidad depende de lo masculino. A veces me dejas sola, tan sola / que siento la muerte rondar... (Valeriano,2004, 17)La mujer también es sometida por su origen, el europeo como heredero del conquistador, se presenta como dominador. Él la está mirando / son los mismos ojos que posó el audaz descubridor sobre la india. (Valeriano,2004, 10) Siendo hija simbólica del conquistador y de la india, Luisa plantea en su poesía el amor que se siente cuando se proviene de dos mundos distintos. Ligeros temblores de una piel en la que anida el miedo / ojos canela, impregnados de asombro, como la piel. (Valeriano,2004, 10)El mar es otra constante en sus versos, sirve de escenario breve para los instantes amorosos. Describe olas altas, motores que rugen, en un agua que parece representar al Caribe pero en el que se encuentran figuras mitológicas europeas como cíclopes furiosos. El mar se muestra como otro espacio en el que se habita en una tierra de nadie: Soy ese faro destartalado en una isla desierta/ la luz que no pueden identificar de donde viene/ o la gaviota
