About the Book

Every story, and especially the interesting ones, carries a certain burden or rather a ransom of the past pledged against the future; the correspondence to reality is only secondary, for in any case it is always rooted in the experience of the author or those close to his writing hand.

So, I author may say that this particular story is as true as the emotions it contains and the journey it depicts - venture through the darkness, which did not just suddenly descend upon the world, but one that was always lurking in the background awaiting for its moment.
All of us, every human being has encountered this darkness at some point in his or her life, and if not... it is certain that at some stage, this mighty shadow will cast itself upon that person. For it has been here all along, holding sway over the time and space - while we may hardly consider ourselves modest guests within its confines. Thus, whatever time or place we choose it is at this very point, when fate challenges us by tossing into its embrace, so we would gain the shape and see who we truly are. Since darkness has the power to shape body and soul, it makes us whole. Through it we become. It is therefore a perfect catalyst for transformation.

While it can be a difficult and uncomfortable experience to endure, some people believe it is ultimately necessary to let it overcome our imagination and shape predictions of what lies ahead or what may enhance our resilience. For when confronted with such adversity and hardship, we are to reach deep within ourselves, striving towards persevere.
It is during these times that we learn what we are truly capable of, as we emerge from its shadowy planes not so much stronger but rather changed - changed in a way we did not knew yet - no one would. Its freeing us from the bindings of empathy and sheds the husks of compassion of our eyes. It brings perspective, wakes within ones hart sort o of reflection by pointing what do we lack - it uncovers our flaws and vulnerabilities...
It is certainly a daunting and challenging affair to find oneself plunged straight into its belly, but it is ultimately a necessary part of gaining awareness. It is through the darkness that we emerge to the word anew - or maybe its all just a pile of nonsense As it will easily crush and digest us like cow is doing it to the grass as she grazes on it. Either way it will consume us... The only difference is Or maybe there's non, and all what's left for us, is to submit.

The book tells the story of two young people from Gdansk, parted by the outbreak of war. It is a record of their journey, which saw them on opposite sides of the conflict. Yet, there are many characters in the novel, whose stories are introduced to the reader through the adventures of the book's main characters. It is also, if not primarily, a testimony to the past, told in the language of those who survived the war. Many of the events quoted in the book really happened, and these are the actual accounts of the author's parents (who lived through the war) and other family members, these are also testimonials of soldiers of the past interviewed by the author and all this has been braided into a story woven in the writer's imagination.
