About the Book

MILES LUGER AND THE SEXY SPECTER A Modern Day Tale of Murder, Mystery and a Smokin' Hot Ghost Times are tough for Milwaukee private investigator and Gulf War vet, Miles Luger. When his only employee, Lillian Del Porto, is killed by sniper fire he figures things can't get much worse. That is, until Lil's ghost shows up. Apparently, her violent death has destabilized the universal balance of good and evil. It can happen. Anyway, she's stuck between life and afterlife until Luger can find her murderer and set the scales of justice right. Accompanying Luger on his quest for cosmic harmony is Lil's no-nonsense ghost. At first appearance she's just like her sixty-something earthly presence. But, as soon as she realizes she's able to choose how she looks, she takes the form of her twenty year old beauty queen self. Hey, who wouldn't? Luger, of course, is immediately smitten with the sexy specter. As the story progresses, Lil's handy talent for transfiguration also results in vampish Brit bon vivant, Lyle, and a towering ghost monster that materializes out of nowhere to protect Luger from a charging north woods bear. So, who killed Lil? At first, her drug addled nephew and only surviving family member, Philip Del Porto, seems like a slam dunk for murder one. Or was it Phil's prostitute girlfriend, Adrienne Weth? Then there's Adrienne's adoptive dad, Augie. He wastes no love on the Del Porto clan. The wide circle of malice that surrounds Phil also includes a pair of disgruntled partners in methamphetamine production who, by the way, dabble in the illegal slaughter and organ harvesting of exotic animals for use as Far Eastern aphrodisiacs. Time and again, Luger's investigation bumps into Elton Mott, longtime Milwaukee crime boss. Two decades earlier, Mott evaded conviction for murdering Lil's policeman father. And it's no secret that the nefarious kingpin resents Adrienne Weth's infringement on his piece of, ah, slice of the local flesh trade. Mott is also using strong arm intimidation--even murder--to advance a shady billion dollar downtown redevelopment project. Always lurking nearby is Mott's ultra buff gay bodyguard whose name is Ralphie but who likes to be called Spike. MILES LUGER AND THE SEXY SPECTER offers plenty of suspects with plenty of motives to keep you guessing until the final scene.
About the Author: Jan Dobson and her husband, Jim, currently reside in the state of Minnesota, US. Their two adult daughters are nearby. Over the years Dobson has called various regions of the United States home. In the nineteen eighties she and her then young family found themselves in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Memories of that city's rich history and scenic beauty helped inspire "Miles Luger and the Sexy Specter." The Dobson family also spent eight years living the expatriate lifestyle in Saudi Arabia. "I'm very grateful that we've been able to experience so much of our own country and the world," says Dobson. "I love that my kids grew up with friends from diverse cultures and geographic origins." Dobson is an experienced business writer. While living abroad she contributed to nonfiction projects "Saudi Arabia: Profile of a Kingdom" (Dubai: Motivate Publishing, 1999) and "Sandscripts" (Riyadh: Sandscripts, 1991.) In the nineties she organized the Jeddah Writers Workshop, a practical organization for women. Recently she decided to try her hand at fiction. "For me, writing fiction is both occupation and recreation. You get to invent characters, scenarios and, if you want to, whole worlds. It's a kick, pure and simple." Production of Miles Luger's second adventure, "Miles Luger and the Arabian Apparition," is now underway.
