Der Autor untersucht theoretisch und experimentell, wie ein Parabolspiegel mit einem großen Öffnungswinkel von etwa neunzig Grad anstelle eines Objektivs in der Mikroskopie eingesetzt werden kann. Obschon Parabolspiegel mit kleinem Öffnungswinkel sehr gebräuchlich im Teleskopbau und in der Telekommunikation sind, werden Spiegel mit großem Öffnungswinkel kaum je benutzt, weil sie außerhalb der optischen Achse sehr schlechte Abbildungs-Eigenschaften besitzen und ihre Herstellung schwierig ist. Bei geeigneter Anwendung sind sie jedoch ein optisches Bauelement, das keine Abbildungsfehler erzeugt. Die Eigenschaften eines Parabolspiegel-Mikroskops mit großem Öffnungswinkel werden in dieser Arbeit ausführlich untersucht. In einem geeigneten konfokalen Aufbau zeigt es hervorragende Eigenschaften, insbesondere auch für Tieftemperatur-Anwendungen, da Mikroskop-Objektive hier nur bedingt eingesetzt werden können. Für Nahfeld-Anwendungen besitzt es vielversprechende Eigenschaften in Kombination mit radial polarisiertem Laserlicht. Des weiteren wird der Aufbau eines Mikroskops mit Parabolspiegeloptik für die Einzelmolekül-Spektroskopie bei tiefen Temperaturen beschrieben und die guten Abbildungs-Eigenschaften werden experimentell untersucht.
About the Author: Ich bin 1969 in Schaffhausen in der Schweiz geboren. Nach dem Physikstudium an der Universität Basel folgte die Doktorarbeit über Mikroskopie mit Parabolspiegeloptik an der Universität Siegen in Deutschland. Anschliessend folgt ein Postdoc-Aufenthalt am Institute of Optics in Rochester in den vereinigten Staaten und die Beschäftigung mit der Messung von Proteindynamik mit optischen Methoden. Nebst den wissenschaftlichen Interessen bin ich ein begeisterter Fahrradfahrer, Wanderer, Fotograf und Vater von zwei kleinen Kindern.
