Auf diese Weise verlegen sie ihren Lebensmittelpunkt an einen anderen Ort der Fremde und erhoffen sich ein besseres, zukunftsweisenderes und sozioökonomisch stabileres Leben. So geht auf der Homepage der Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung hervor, dass durch diesen Prozess des "Verlassens" heutzutage weltweit mehr als 150 Millionen Menschen in einem Staat leben, der nicht ihre ursprüngliche Heimat darstellt. Diese Zahl der Menschen verdeutlicht unmissverständlich, dass dieser Prozess nicht erst seit einigen Jahren im Fokus steht. Zumal laut Celikates (2016) Migrationsbewegungen über Staatsgrenzen hinweg seit dem Bestehen von territorialen Grenzen gäbe. Also könnte doch gemeint werden, dass die Thematik der Migration mittlerweile verstanden und einigermaßen gehandhabt sein müsse. Zumal sich auch die Internationale Politische Theorie, so Kreide und Niederberger (2016), mit derartigen globalen Prozessen wie eben der Migration beschäftige, um ethische Grundlagen festlegen zu können. Allerdings entsteht beispielsweise mit einem reflektierenden Rückblick auf die letzten 50 Jahre Deutschlands sowie auf die aktuelle Debatte rund um die Flüchtlingsfrage ein verkehrtes Bild. Angefangen zu Zeiten der Gastarbeitermigration mit dem Modell des "Gastarbeiters" über die des "Ausländers" und "Asylanten" bis hin zu dem postmodernen Begriff des "Migranten" demonstrieren diese nicht nur, dass alle Begriffsmodelle, so Celikates (2016), negativ konnotiert sind und immer nur bestimmte Menschengruppen ansprechen, sondern in gleicher Weise auch eine Verschiebung der Verantwortung und des notwendigen Interesses sich vollzogen hat.
