El volumen 5 de Mexicanación se concentra en el examen de distintas obras poéticas de seis autores mexicanos, mediante siete ensayos académicos y de estilo libre. Tres de los poetas se orientan a crear una poesía cultista, conversacional y/o antipoética y tres forman parte de la Generación de los Cincuenta. A continuación, se expone brevemente el enfoque de cada uno de los siete textos expositivos:

1. Este primer ensayo académico discute los aspectos centrales de la Poesía Conversacional reflejados en el poema "Amiga. . ." del volumen El manto y la corona (1958) del veracruzano Rubén Bonifaz Nuño (1923-2013).

2. El segundo ensayo académico explora la configuración de la Antipoesía en La zorra enferma (1974) del defeño Eduardo Lizalde (1929-), por medio del examen del coloquialismo, de la desmitificación del mundo y de la representación poética de la alienación del individuo en la sociedad moderna. En 2003, este ensayo se engloba bajo el título original de "Coloquialismo, desmitificación del mundo y alienación del individuo en la sociedad moderna: La antipoesía en La zorra enferma (México, 1974) de Eduardo Lizalde", para propósitos profesionales. De este modo, esta ponencia académica fue presenciada por el público que asistió al Octavo Congreso de Literatura Mexicana Contemporánea, que fue patrocinado por la Universidad de Texas en El Paso y fue celebrado entre el 6 y el 8 de marzo de 2003.

3. El tercer texto expositivo y académico examina el desarrollo de los temas del amor y el erotismo en los siguientes cinco poemarios de Eduardo Lizalde: El tigre en la casa (1970), La zorra enferma (1974), Al margen de un tratado (1979-1984), Dichterlieb/oleros (1979-1984) y Tabernarios y eróticos (1989).

4. El cuarto escrito es un ensayo más libre y se enfoca en la visión de mundo pesimista y escéptica, expresada en cinco poemas importantes del defeño José Emilio Pacheco (1939-2009).

5. Después, el quinto examen académico establece la definición de la nueva identidad cultural del inmigrante europeo y la identificación emocional con los espacios urbanos de la Ciudad de México en Lotes baldíos (1985) del escritor egipcio-italiano-mexicano Fabio Morábito (1955-). El ensayo original se titula "Refundación del paraíso perdido: Identidad cultural y espacio urbano en Lotes baldíos (México, 1984) de Fabio Morábito". Fue presentado en el Décimo Quinto Simposio de Posgrado y Profesional Anual de Literatura, Lengua y Cultura Hispánica y Luso-brasileña, el cual fue organizado por la Universidad de Arizona en la ciudad de Tucson, entre el 17 y el 19 de febrero de 2005.

6. El sexto ensayo académico revisa la construcción de nuevos paradigmas de poeta y poesía en El cardo en la voz (1991) de Jorge Esquinca (1957-), mediante la construcción de un hablante y una poesía impersonales dentro del subgénero poético arte poética. El autor del presente libro escribió el texto matriz con el nombre de "Arte poética, poeta impersonal y la poesía como "canto sin dueño" en El cardo en la voz de Jorge Esquinca". Luego, lo presentó en el Undécimo Congreso de Literatura Mexicana Contemporánea (2006), el cual fue promocionado por la Universidad de Texas en El Paso, del 2 al 4 de marzo de 2006.

7. Finalmente, el ensayo libre que cierra el volumen hace un extremo análisis textual del poema unitario Agua (2019) de Francisco Segovia (1958-). El enfoque es mirar tal poemario como lo que el presente autor llama "una historia lírica del agua universal y quintaesencial". En especial, disecciona los diferentes componentes poéticos que construyen imágenes cotidianas y reflexiones profundas sobre un elemento de la naturaleza: La simple agua.
