El presente tercer volumen de la serie Mexicanación contiene seis ensayos académicos y libres, que muestran parcialmente un estado del arte en México. Al mismo tiempo, estos textos expositivos funcionan como una radiografía sucinta de la literatura mexicana contemporánea escrita por mujeres durante la segunda mitad del siglo XX. Las seis escritoras analizadas publicaron la mayor parte de sus obras literarias entre 1950 y 2000, especialmente.

Fundamentalmente, se examinan algunas obras representativas de dos grupos de prominentes escritoras. El primer grupo comienza a publicar entre las décadas de los cincuenta y los sesenta. Sin embargo, el presente volumen excluye por razones de espacio el examen de las obras muy valiosas de Inés Arredondo (1928-1989) y de Julieta Campos (1932-2007). El segundo núcleo surge a la luz pública a partir de la década de los ochenta, justo en los inicios de la globalización económica y de la economía neoliberal en México. Por la misma razón, se omite el análisis de la narrativa de Laura Esquivel (1950-). En realidad, los textos seleccionados desarrollan un sencillo panorama general de la literatura femenina contemporánea de México surgida en la segunda mitad del siglo XX. Aunque muy importantes, los cuentos y novelas de Nellie Campobello (1900-1986) pertenecen a la primera mitad dicho siglo.

En conjunto, los seis ensayos de Mexicanación exploran diversos tópicos en importantes novelas y colecciones de cuentos publicados en la época contemporánea. Asimismo, dichos escritos expositivos practican primordialmente los análisis feministas, textuales, temáticos y de personaje.

En suma, las seis escritoras mencionadas ya forman parte de la historia de la Literatura Mexicana del siglo XX y son consideradas como importantes voces narrativas dentro de la Literatura Hispanoamericana. En particular, estas novelistas y cuentistas pertenecen a dos generaciones diferentes. Primeramente, Elena Garro, Elena Poniatowska y Rosario Castellanos pertenecen a un primer grupo marcado por el movimiento feminista. En cambio, Angeles Mastretta, Carmen Boullosa y Sabina Berman emergen en los albores del Neoliberalismo y la globalización económica. En especial, las tres primeras cultivaron el subgénero del cuento también con gran éxito; Castellanos demuestra su gran versatilidad literaria y practica todos los principales géneros literarios: narrativo, lírico, dramático y expositivo. En el segundo grupo, Mastretta se orienta hacia los cuentos, las novelas y las memorias primordialmente y Boullosa y Berman exploran la poesía y el teatro.

Al final de cuentas, las cinco novelas analizadas y la colección de cuentos discutida son una manera de definir la Mexicanación con personajes, eventos y espacios geográficos mexicanos y extranjeros, en franco camino hacia las realidades sociales del siglo XXI. Entre 1960 y 2000, la sociedad occidental atraviesa por la gestación y la plenitud de la globalización económica, así que las culturas de cada país replantean y redefinen las identidades nacionales y posnacionales con elementos transnacionales.
