Mexicanación identifica y examina los significativos papeles familiares y sociales de los personajes creados por Fuentes y Rulfo, como parte de una identidad nacional mexicana. Todos ellos asumen los roles de revolucionarios, caciques y padres, dentro de los contextos rurales y urbanos de la nación mexicana. En especial, este segundo tomo de Mexicanación se enfoca primordialmente en el análisis de los siguientes temas:

1. La función del poder y de la supervivencia como formas del subconsciente humano y como los diferentes paradigmas psicológicos y sociales que asume el poderoso y militar revolucionario protagonista de La muerte de Artemio Cruz (1962) de Carlos Fuentes (1928-2012). En particular, la ponencia "Poder y supervivencia en La muerte de Artemio Cruz de Carlos Fuentes" fue presentada originalmente en el Duodécimo Congreso de Literatura Mexicana Contemporánea (2007)" de la Universidad de Texas en El Paso, la cual fue celebrada entre el primero y el 3 de marzo de 2007.

2. El segundo escrito expositivo del presente volumen aborda los diferentes roles masculinos del protagonista y las paradojas del patriarcado en Pedro Páramo (1950) de Juan Rulfo (1918-1986). Su autor expuso una primera versión del este ensayo en la prestigiosa Décimo Octava Conferencia Anual de Lenguas Modernas de Kentucky ocurrida en la Universidad de Kentucky en Lexington, durante el mes de abril de 1995.

3. El tercer ensayo examina detenidamente la compleja estructura narrativa de Pedro Páramo de Juan Rulfo y expone las diferentes re-textualizaciones del tema y símbolo del Paraíso Perdido en dicha novela representativa de la corriente literaria del Realismo Mágico.

4. El escrito expositivo final se concentra en analizar dos papeles familiares y sociales muy importantes en una buena parte de la narrativa de Rulfo: la relación conflictiva padre-hijo en el cuento "No oyes ladrar los perros" de la colección El llano en llamas (1953). Esta relación familiar básica alcanza altos niveles simbólicos y alegóricos en otras obras narrativas del propio Rulfo. Asimismo, su dimensión política e ideológica también aparece en numerosas obras cinematográficas y literarias de México.

En suma, el volumen 2 de Mexicanación abarca el análisis de una novela esencial de Carlos Fuentes sobre la Revolución Mexicana y una novela y un cuento clásicos de Juan Rulfo. En general, son ensayos académicos y ensayos libres. Algunas aproximaciones teóricas utilizadas son la teoría psicológica y antropológica del poder, el análisis textual y el análisis de personaje, básicamente.

Finalmente, Mexicanación busca resaltar la obra singular de esos dos grandes narradores, a partir del examen detenido de la psicología profunda y/o los papeles sociales de sus personajes masculinos, ya sea como revolucionarios, caciques o padres.

Carlos Fuentes y Juan Rulfo son figuras esenciales y escritores clásicos dentro de la Literatura Mexicana de la segunda mitad del siglo XX, de la literatura en lengua española y de la Literatura Universal. Al final de cuentas, estas tres narraciones examinadas son una manera de definir la Mexicanación o a la nación mexicana, a través de algunos de sus personajes cimeros y más representativos de la sociedad mexicana, justo en la segunda década del siglo XXI.
