Um Verbesserungspotentiale identifizieren und Leistungslücken schließen zu können, genügt allerdings nicht nur eine auf die Innenansicht des Unternehmens bezogene Betrachtungsweise - vielmehr erscheint es notwendig, in einem nach außen gerichteten Unternehmensvergleich zusätzliches Wissen über die optimalen Prozesse, Strukturen und Produkte zu erlangen. Eine solche Wettbewerbsanalyse kann zwar in erster Linie Antwort auf die Frage nach den Ursachen, nicht aber zu den Ansatzpunkten für eine Verbesserung der eigenen Wettbewerbsposition geben. Letztere Fragestellung steht im Mittelpunkt des Benchmarking-Konzeptes. Die vorliegende Arbeit setzt sich kritisch mit dem Konzept des Benchmarking auseinander und zeigt Fallstricke und Probleme im Benchmarking-Prozess auf.
