Zum Jahresanfang 2010 haben der Stadtprasident von Basel, Guy Morin, und Niklaus Peter als Festredner in der Basler Peterskirche des 250. Geburtstags von Johann Peter Hebel gedacht. 'Am 13. Mai 1760 ist hier an diesem Ort ein Kind von redlichen Dienstboten getauft worden, das zum grossten Dichter von Basel und vom Oberrhein herangewachsen ist. Keiner hat vorher oder nachher in vergleichbarer Schlichtheit den lokalen Volkscharakter geschildert und reprasentiert. Zu seinen Ehren versammeln wir uns heute. Vor 250 Jahren ist Johann Peter Hebel in Basel geboren. Johann Peter Hebel ist ein Basler. Aber er ist weit daruber hinaus auch ein Deutscher und ein Franzose des elsassischen Departements. Und vor allem ist er ein Weltburger, der die Aufklarung und die politische Moderne in der Sprache und in der christlichen Moralitat unserer Region vorlebt, volkstumlich erlautert und in unvergesslichen dichterischen Bildern verewigt. Johann Peter Hebel ist ein Basler, er ist aber auch ein Hausener, ein Weiler, ein Lorracher, ein Karlsruher, ein Strassburger Weltburger.' Aus der Rede von Guy Morin 'Religion war fur den Theologen und Dichter stets ein Medium menschlicher Versohnung, nicht eines der Verscharfung und Ausgrenzung. Hebel war Christ und Theologe - aber eben einer, der keine Angst- und Hassmomente bewirtschaftet, keine religiosen Spaltpilze gezuchtet hat, sondern im Gegenteil mit literarischen Mitteln zur Versohnung, zum gegenseitigen Verstandnis beizutragen versuchte. Fur seine verdienstvollen Beitrage zur Union der Lutherischen und Reformierten in Baden hat er den Ehrendoktor in Heidelberg erhalten. Und mit seinen witzig und brillant geschriebenen Kalendergeschichten finden wir ihn auch in Religionsdingen kommunizieren und argumentieren.
