Besonders im Bereich der Erwachsenenbildung (insbesondere im wirtschaftlichen Kontext) entsteht durch wirtschaftliche Dynamik, gesellschaftliche Veränderungen, politische Einflüsse und pluralisierte Lebensformen ein bildungsrelevantes Spannungsfeld. Aus Sicht der Pädagogik sollte diesem viel Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt werden, da aufgrund einer hohen Komplexität der Sachverhalte zahlreiche Chancen, spannende Herausforderungen und beunruhigende Gefahren nebeneinander, kaum ausreichend systematisch geordnet, koexistieren. Vor allem die Auswirkungen der wirtschaftlichen Dynamik, die nicht zuletzt auch durch eine neoliberale Politik auch gezielt herbeigeführt wurden, reichen weit in den Gegenstand der Weiterbildung hinein. Bildungsprozesse, -programme und -konzepte werden verstärkt nach ökonomischen Kriterien bewertet - Bildung muss sich betriebswirtschaftlich rechnen! Inwieweit sich Bildung aber berechnen und berechenbar machen lässt, ist für zahlreiche Bildungsexperten fraglich, insbesondere da Auswirkungen und Ergebnisse von Bildung bei verschiedenen Bildungsempfängern verschieden lange Wirkungsdauer aufweist bzw. verschieden wirken kann - oft zeigen sich Resultate von Bildungsmaßnahmen erst über viele Jahre hinweg. Darüber hinaus fordern BildungsexpertInnen immer wieder auch ein ökonomisch zweckfreies Lernen, Bildung um des Menschen willen, ohne erst Legitimation durch wirtschaftliche Kennzahlen zu erhalten.
