Medizinische Ethik - ein Modewort? Eines der ersten Bucher der Editores Medicorum Helveticorum nimmt sich dieses zentralen Aspekts des Arztseins an. Neue medizinische Entwicklungen losen zugleich Hoffnungen und Angste aus. Immer werden dabei auch Fragen zur ethischen Verantwortbarkeit dieser neuen Moglichkeiten aufgeworfen. Im Spannungsfeld zwischen dem wissenschaftlichen Fortschritt, der gelegentlich die Grenzen erprobten medizinischen Handelns erreicht, und materiellen Allokationsfragen wird das Bedurfnis nach einer Ethik in der Medizin immer starker. Das vorliegende, auf die spezifischen Bedurfnisse der Schweiz ausgerichtete Buch schliesst hier eine grosse Lucke. Der Ruf nach Ethik ist sowohl allgemein verbreitet wie diffus in seinem Verstandnis und seinen Implikationen. Einerseits sollen bestimmte Werte oder Normen, welche in unserer Gesellschaft bisher als indiskutabel galten, weiterhin mit der Autoritat der Ethik gefestigt werden. Andererseits wird damit eine eher vage und zugleich moralisierende Wiederholung einiger Allgemeinplatze verbunden, die verschiedenen weltanschaulichen Traditionen entnommen werden. Eine letzte Variante des Rufs nach mehr Ethik besteht in einer dezidierten Uberprufung der bisher tradierten moralischen Intuitionen. Sie nimmt in der Literatur oft die Form der radikalen Infragestellung bisheriger Positionen an. Eine solche Art der Reflexion hat sicherlich zur besseren Klarstellung mancher normativer Konflikte gefuhrt. Sie hat aber auch viele Menschen in ihrem moralischen Haushalt so verunsichert und verargert, dass das Wort Ethik bzw. Bioethik beinahe zum Schimpfwort geworden ist. Dieses Buch mochte dem Bedurfnis nach Ethik Rechnung tragen, zugleich aber die erwahnten Zerrbilder vermeiden. Die beiden Herausgeber, PD Dr. theol. A. Bondolfi und Prof. Dr. med. Hj. Muller, vertreten die beiden angesprochenen Wissenschaftssparten: Ethik und Medizin. Ein kompetenter wissenschaftlicher Beirat hat bei der Auswahl der Themen und Autoren mitgewirkt und die einzelnen Kapitel gepruft. Als Autorinnen und Autoren fur die einzelnen Beitrage konnten sowohl Vertreter aus Philosophie und Theologie als auch aus der Medizin gewonnen werden. Dieses Buch wird Studierenden, Arztinnen und Arzten, allen im Pflegebereich tatigen Leserinnen und Lesern sowie allen an der Medizinethik Interessierten eine Informationsquelle und Hilfe bei der konkreten Auseinandersetzung mit ethischen Fragen im medizinischen Alltag sein.
About the Author: Alberto Bondolfi, geb. 1946, studierte Philosophie und Theologie an der Universitat Freiburg i. Ue. Im Jahr 1977 wurde er im Fach Theologie promoviert. Seit 2003 ist er Professor fur Ethik an der Universitat Lausanne. Er war Prasident der Schweizerischen Gesellschaft fur Biomedizinische Ethik (1990-1996) und Prasident der Europaischen Gesellschaft fur ethische Forschung (1995-1999). Des Weiteren ist er Mitglied der zentralethischen Kommission der Schweizerischen Akademie der Medizinischen Wissenschaften und verschiedener Bundeskommissionen, die sich mit Ethik in der Medizin beschaftigen. Prof. Dr. med. Hansjakob Muller ist ehemaliger Leiter der Abteilung Medizinische Genetik des Universitats-Kinderspitals beider Basel und des Departements Biomedizin Basel.
