Meditations of a Sparrow: Psalms for the Modern Age, Karen S. Green's first compilation of poetry, is a window onto her relationship and daily walk with the Most High. Her first poem began as a doodle, written prior to a high-level corporate meeting in an attempt to ease pre-meeting jitters. Though not included in this compilation, that original poem -- along with a subsequent inner witness urging her to "think of God and write a poem" -- served as the catalyst for a new chapter in her spiritual odyssey.
Prior to her "unequivocal commission from God" to write poetry, Ms. Green's writing focused on nonfiction, including an upcoming memoir. However, she came to love this previously unexplored avenue of expression, which allowed her to present the spiritual truths that revolutionized her life in a simple but profound way.
The poems in Meditations have a lighthearted quality. "Faith," for example, depicts the quiet assurance of a sparrow content in the knowledge that the Creator has her in His sight. "Distracted" makes humorous yet astute observations of the sometimes irreverent atmosphere existing in many worship services. "Comforter" identifies the coping strategies employed by a stressed-out society -- as well as the only true remedy. "Tell Jesus" speaks confidently of a Friend Who sticks closer than a brother.
"As the author of these poems, I also am the beneficiary of their uplifting messages," says Ms. Green. "Very often, one of them will come to mind when I am faced with a spiritual situation or dilemma. It is my prayer that this poetry compilation will be a blessing to others in their daily devotions."
Meditations is Ms. Green's story of a period of time when she was feeling overwhelmed and out of place in a world that sometimes feels too big. It is also about her finding the place of rest, inner peace, and freedom to finally be who the Most High created her to be -- secure all the while in the knowledge and comfort of His ever-present love and diligent care.
