Diplomarbeit aus dem Jahr 2008 im Fachbereich Psychologie - Medienpsychologie, Note: 1,7, Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die interdisziplinäre Medienforschung hat im letzten Jahrhundert eine Entwicklung vom einfachen Stimulus-Response-Modell der Medienwirkungen, hin zu differenzierten Modellen der Medienrezeption hinter sich gebracht. Das handlungstheoretische Rezeptionsmodell fällt in die zweite Kategorie und wurde in den 90er Jahren von Charlton und Neumann-Braun entwickelt. Es geht von einem Rezipienten aus, der - im Kontext seiner Lerngeschichte und aktuellen Situation - aus dem Medienangebot aktiv etwas für ihn thematisch Passendes auswählt und zur Lebensbewältigung und Identitätsbewahrung nutzt. In der aktuellen öffentlichen Debatte stehen jedoch Aussagen der Hirnforscher Spitzer und Hüther und des Kriminologen Pfeiffer im Vordergrund, die ein bedrohliches Bild der negativen Medienwirkungen zeichnen: Der Konsum von Bildschirmmedien verursache unter anderem Schulversagen, soziale Isolation, Krankheit und schließlich den Tod. Aus dieser Diskrepanz zwischen der Entwicklung der Medienforschung und der aktuellen Debatte ergeben sich die Fragen, inwieweit diese aktuellen und mit modernen wissenschaftlichen Methoden gewonnenen Aussagen das handlungstheoretische Rezeptionsmodell widerlegen können bzw. vor dem Hintergrund der kognitionswissenschaftlichen Forschung adäquat sind. Die Recherche im Rahmen dieser Arbeit hat gezeigt, dass die zugrunde liegenden Wirkungsmodelle der drei Wissenschaftler zu großen Teilen nicht den Erkenntnissen der Rezeptionsforschung entsprechen und die Datengrundlage, auf die sich die Neurowissenschaftler beziehen, nicht aus ihrem eigenen Labor stammt. Dementsprechend gering ist die Aussagekraft der aus den Aussagen abgeleiteten Handlungsanweisungen. Während die Methoden neurowissenschaftlich sind, ist die Argumentation mehrheitlich pädagogisch.
