This is a historic book of medical administration in Iraq. It is the first book of a series. It navigates through the medical services in Iraq starting from the inception. This book, follow the medical practices in Mesopotamia to the modern time. It covers the period through, up until the independence of Iraq in 3 October 1932. The Arabic language book, "Medicine and Treatment in Iraq" contains many facts and details published for the first time in Arabic, some of them not published in any language. These details include but not limited to, the way of practicing medicine, and the administration of that service to the Iraqi people. The book contains many medical related stories, Written, to highlight some of the actions and practices. They are informative as well as entertaining. They are about some facts and their impact on the practice of medicine. The goal of the book is to improve the health system in Iraq, through highlighting the problems and obstacles facing the medical activity. There are many problems in Iraqi health delivery system. They include governmental, administrative, cultural, religions to mention some. The author "Dr. C. Iraqi Pasha" is an Iraqi physician who served for about 20 years in different parts of Iraq. With Baghdad, he served in about half the governorates of the country, in various medical and administrative capacities. He is well familiar with the cultural characters of different parts of Iraq. The book is composed of five chapters. Each chapter is followed by a conclusion part that summaries and discuss the most important points mentioned during that chapter. It highlights some matters that influenced the health system afterword. The first chapter details the importance of medical services in Iraq and the financial impact of various diseases on the country. Mentioning the different parts of the Iraqi society, the book addresses their rule regarding the relation with the health services. The book discusses the medical oath in Iraq. Analyzing the oath, it clarifies the differences with the Hippocrates oath, and the modern adapted one, clarifying its impact on the medical practice. The second chapter recites the medical practice in the area that became Iraq, through out the history up until Ottoman Empire occupied the land. It highlights the participation of Mesopotamian people in the progress of Medicine. The following chapter mentions the health and medical situation in Mesopotamia, during that Ottoman Empire occupation. It also mentions the changes in the medical field all over the world, listing the most important advances in medicine in a timely plot. The forth chapter details the medical and health situation during British occupation of Mesopotamia. It covers the period from March 1917 until the recognition of the area as a country by League of Nations on 11 November 1920. It highlights some of the important aspects in the way British administration dealt with Iraqis. The fifth chapter deals with the actual beginning of the national health system. It details the way it evolved. It also mentions the effect of different political and financial aspects that play rule in determining the way, the health system delivered. The book ends by annex of the most important laws that were legislated during the period, which affected the delivery and the function of the health services.
