Este libro, escrito en el marco de los treinta años de la caída del muro de Berlín conmemorados en noviembre de 2019, forma parte del acompañamiento que el Instituto Patmos intenta ofrecer al pueblo cubano, y en especial a las comunidades de fe, respecto a sus experiencias particulares ante el totalitarismo, y cómo los ejemplos de creyentes comprometidos con su fe en Europa del Este, especificamente en Polonia, incidieron en el colapso del comunismo en 1989.Jerzy Popieluszko como mártir, pero también figuras como el Papa Juan Pablo II en su posición de líder espiritual, o de Lech Walesa y el Sindicato Solidaridad en sus posiciones de creyentes activos y comprometidos con sus principios de Fe, y la realidad en las que les correspondió representar a Dios, son el tema de este volumen.Polonia, en su doble condición de haber sido tanto la frontera oriental del catolicismo romano como de los países de Europa del Este que sufrieron la imposición del comunismo de parte de la Unión Soviética luego de la división del mundo posterior a la Segunda Guerra Mundial, significó la fricción entre un pueblo con sólidas raíces de Fe y un sistema de opresión totalmente adverso a esa Fe e impuesto además por una potencia extranjera. Ofrece un valioso ejemplo a tomar en cuenta por los creyentes cubanos a pesar de las distancias geográficas o temporales, porque hay principios universales involucrados que también pueden aplicarse al caso cubano, pero probablemente no han sido tomados en cuenta por la cortina de humo que con total intención el régimen en Cuba contrapone ya que entiende que este puede resultar perjudicial, lo cual es muy cierto, para su propia sobrevivencia. Este volumen es el segundo de la serie #BerlinWall30 que se inició con el escrito por José Gabriel Barrenechea Chávez, "Cuba, una isla entre la Utopía y la Revolución", libro de ideología y pensamiento, que esgrime la sutil hipótesis de que en la carencia de estos se encuentra precisamente el porqué de la sobrevivencia de la dictadura cubana. Este segundo libro sugiere que las ideologías y los pensamientos milenarios que han acompañado al mundo de la Fe pueden aportar a esas carencias. Si sumamos el detalle de que en el caso específico de Polonia, unido a las ideas y acciones pacíficas de hombres de Fe, ocupó también un lugar sumamente determinante el nacionalismo polaco articulado e indisolublemente mezclado a esos ideales religiosos, entonces la continuidad al libro de Barrenechea se vuelve más pertinente en esta serie a modo de soluciones y propuestas de llenar ese vacío ideológico de lo cual depende la libertad de Cuba, ya que precisamente Barrenechea propone rescatar: "la veta" del nacionalismo cubano (José Martí, los símbolos patrios, ...) secuestrados hábilmente por el castrismo con el camufleo adicional del "uso más que nada herramental" de ideologías marxistas que manipula y de las cuales también se burla a diestra y a siniestra, con propósitos adicionales a la propia sobrevivencia, y que tienen mucho que ver con objetivos supranacionales.Los sólidos principios de fe de millones de cubanos, unidos al rescate de un nacionalismo puro y sano que el sistema totalitario ha usado y manipulado a su antojo, podrían ser la combinación que propicie a los cubanos conseguir por fin la libertad y la democracia, de la misma manera que con ambos ingredientes de pensamiento bien definidos, vividos y articulados, lo consiguieron polacos como el santo mártir cuya imagen el autor de este libro lleva casi siempre en su solapa.
