About the Book

Mathematics expresses itself everywhere, in almost every facet of life - in nature all around us, and in the technologies in our hands. Mathematics is the language of science and engineering - describing our understanding of all that we observe. Mathematics in everyday life refers to the way humans use math to complete certain tasks throughout the day. A person may use math when they are out shopping and trying to calculate the total cost of the items they are buying in order to stick to a budget. Mathematics can also be used when someone is baking a recipe and measuring out certain ingredients using cups, pounds, or other types of measurements. Any time a person does something that requires counting, measuring, or similar math tasks, they are usually mathematics in everyday life. Another common example is balancing a check book. The big issue is the very nature of the universe, of time, energy, and space. The entire universe is formed and bound by infinitely complex mathematical relationships, geometry, and the laws of chance. Biological life springs from chemistry, which is created by the mathematical relationships of atoms in chemical reactions. At a deeper level, life is created by mathematical relationships of subatomic particles within atoms, and perhaps even deeper by mathematical relationships of yet unproven cosmic "strings," whose vibrational existence is promoted by famous string theory advocates. At every level, mathematical relationships, which include the laws of chance, are involved in the creation of the earth, the stars, and all life. The inherent problem with human life is that there are literally trillions of things that have to go right for it to exist in a healthy state, and thus there are literally trillions of chances that something will go wrong. The odds are against our being born in a healthy environment, with perfect DNA, and having all the events surrounding us go so well that our lives are totally enjoyable and satisfying. This is not karma. This is just an unavoidable fact of the laws of probability we all live under no matter how virtuously we conduct ourselves. Math is not Essential to human life. However, it is important for human development. Without Advanced algebra and calculus, there would be no-one to calculate the exact resistance and voltages required for the complex circuits found in electronics, thus there would be no cell phones, computers or even light. With out geometry or physics, no-one could accurately DESIGN or create proper architectural structures, or civil necessities, thus there would be no good houses, roads, or safe bridges. Without basic multiplication or addition there would be not universal or accurate currency system, and thus we would "buy" stuff based on trading with what we thought was good enough. So math isn't absolutely necessary for human life to persist, but even the ancient Egyptians knew the importance of it to live civilized lives.
