About the Book

The Author & Book. Tatay Jobo Elizes is a pen name. Born in 1934, Manila, Philippines. Mapua BSEE Class'57. Ateneo, MBA Class'77. Worked as electrical engineer for several companies for 30 years. Engaged in his own engineering & machinery business for 10 years until closing and retirement in late 1980s. Then emigrated with wife to USA. Now resident of Broklyn NY. Master One Good Behavior (That's Enough) book is a short listed collection of simple behaviors, acts and habits in our daily lives. The book is merely asking the reader to experiment in developing and mastering just one good habit among the list and become adept and be good at it. One good and wholesome behavior could hopefully generate more good behaviors in that person. Nobody can prove this experiment except the reader. --------------------------- 1 Character Education for Adults They say it's too late to educate adults. There is no more chance for older people to learn good behaviors. You cannot train old dogs new tricks, which is a common saying. It's hopeless and useless to admonish them about their faults and lack of consideration for others. Just like me, most of them missed their lessons on good behavior during their youth, or missed them from their parents, who probably did not know much or did not pay much attention to or just took the matter of good behavior for granted. Parent's inadequacy must remain blameless and must be fully understood in a different light and context. This book is not for children. Children cannot be taught the do's and don'ts in vehicle driving and many other acts and omissions suitable for adults only and not yet for children. There are still many adult activities which are beyond the reach of kids, and cannot be understood in primary schools. This book can still be used for children, mature enough to understand our lessons. School children starting in middle school, or 5th grade, or even earlier, can already learn from this book. My purpose in writing this book and essays is merely to record just a few annoying behaviors of adults, not children, that we always encounter in our daily lives. The moment you leave the house, by car, bus or train, or by walking, you find yourself exposed to all kinds of inconsiderate behaviors. You cannot escape them. It's impossible to avoid them. We live in a crowded world. There's people everywhere. Population is growing. Space is becoming limited. Elbow rooms are becoming smaller. In recording these inconsiderate actions and behaviors, I just thought that an experiment could be done by the readers here to somehow try to prove my assumption or my unproven theory that adults, not children, can still learn how to behave properly by being considerate to others. I'd like to prove that old dogs can still be taught new tricks, reversing that old adage. The general theory is that only children of school age can be taught good manners and right conduct. Many books on good behaviors are actually addressed to children, and none at all or very few books on that subject are addressed to adults and older persons. Occasionally we read many writings and sermons from the pulpit admonishing the general population to practice good manners. Adults are good listeners but poor doers. After listening, they go about their own usual ways. It's really up to each one of us to change our ways. Yes, we can. Or no, we cannot. I am not here to force the issue. This is merely an experiment in human behavior. Actually, my list of inconsiderate actions are not based on the so-called basic rules of good character and right conduct. My list are beyond such rules, as they refer more to uncalled for rudeness or lack of humaneness or humanity that borders more on actuations that are harmful, hurtful or prone to violence. This book can literally save lives and or expenses. ---------------------------------
