About the Book

Mary McIntosh revisits her diary for the years 1935-1939. This is Volume Three which covers 1937. The four other are now also available as Kindle E-Books and paperbacks. What was going on in 1937? Howard Hughes flew coast to coast in only 7 hours 28 minutes and 25 seconds, huge flooding of the Mississippi and Ohio rivers occurred, a new house could be bought for $4,000 or you could rent one for $26 a month, gas was 10 cents a gallon, Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy debuted on radio, "Gone With The Wind," by Margaret Mitchell received the Pulitzer Prize in fiction, Disney's first full-length animated feature opened--"Snow White and the Seven Dwarves," Spam was introduced-soon to become world's largest selling canned meat, Amelia Earhart and navigator Fred Noonan disappear over New Guinea and were never found. Over the five volumes Mary describes the abdication of the English King, the fiery disaster of the Hindenberg, romantic rides in a rumble seat, visits to England on a steam ship, her first sexual encounters with a lover, and hundreds of other episodes brought back to her 90 year old mind in clear and vivid detail from the diary entries she made so long ago.Not every memory is bright and pleasant. The great depression lay over the land and there was much suffering and unrest. Too, her authoritarian father's shocking manner of explaining sex to her caused much anxiety and clouded her life long after her father's death when she was herself married with children of her own.But despite those clouds in the background, Mary's teenage years come through as brightly and vividly as sunshine after a storm. She describes a long ago time of small pleasures and enormous excitement you will enjoy sharing. So start with her 1935 and 1936 volumes and then take a peek into her 1937 diary. She will take you back to a slower and simpler time. And the interlude will soothe your soul and enliven your mind. And it will also sharpen your appetite for more. Once you read one, you'll want to read all the other volumes in this delightful and satisfying series.
About the Author: "I recently celebrated my 90th birthday with a blow-out bash for all my friends and neighbors. I had just finally completed my memoir based on a five-year diary I kept as a teenager, from 1935-1939, and which I still have. "It was hard work, for even though all the events are listed in the diary, it was difficult remembering so long ago how I felt and what my true reactions were to certain events. "Yes, it was hard work, but I'm fully convinced that all this writing is helping keep me mentally alert and active. "I think you'll enjoy in the five volumes of my 1930s diary a delightful armchair journey as you meet the people and places I so enjoyed in a quieter and in a quieter and simpler time. "Finally, I hope my books bring as much pleasure to you as you read them as I had when I wrote them." Mary McIntosh is now 93 years old, yet she writes with all the animation and verve of a twenty year old. In the five volumes of Mary's Diary she remembers and describes in vivid detail the adventures she enjoyed and the wonderful people she met. Try a sample and you'll find you want to read more. You'll also yearn for those times gone by and the slower and more innocent time she relates. Volume Three, the 1937 book, is a wonderful read and a real inspiration to get up and order the books for the other four years!
