Der Band 88 der Gesamtausgabe enthalt zwei Seminare. Das erste in diesem Band veroffentlichte Seminar "Die metaphysischen Grundstellungen des abendlandischen Denkens" vom Wintersemester 1937/38 steht thematisch in engem Zusammenhang mit der gleichzeitigen Vorlesung uber die Grundfragen der Philosophie und das Seminar uber Nietzsches metaphysische Grundstellung. Auch in den Beitragen zur Philosophie erwahnt Heidegger im dritten Teil "Das Zuspiel" dieses Seminar. In einer langen Einleitung erortert Heidegger das Gefuge der Leitfrage der Metaphysik, Was ist das Seiende?, versucht er die Notwendigkeit eines Ruckgangs in die Grundfrage der Metaphysik, Was ist das Sein?, einsichtig zu machen und entfaltet der die Vorfrage, Was ist Wahrheit?. Im Seminar behandelt Heidegger die metaphysischen Grundstellung Platons, der Ubergang von der griechischen Metaphysik zur neuzeitlich Christlichen, die metaphysischen Grundstellungen von Descartes, Leibniz, Kant und dem deutschen Idealismus. Die Descartes- und Leibniz-Auslegung formen das Kernstuck des Seminars. Bemerkenswert ist Heideggers Auslegung von Schellings positiven und negativen Philosophie, die hier zum ersten Male der Forschung zuganglich gemacht wird. Das zweite Seminar "Einubung in das philosophische Denken" vom Wintersemester 1941/42 ist eine Ubung fur Anfanger. Einubung in das philosophische Denken ist "die anhaltende Bemuhung dieser Art des Denkens frei vollziehen zu konnen". Heidegger lehrt seine Studenten das philosophische Denken anhand von Spruchen von Heraklit und Nietzsche. Da wir nicht nur Heideggers handschriftliche Ausarbeitung des Seminars haben, sondern auch uber ein zuverlassiges Protokoll des Seminarablaufs verfugen, gewinnen wir Einsicht in Heideggers Padagogik.
