Band 75 der Gesamtausgabe enthalt nachgelassene Arbeiten zu Holderlin, zum Teil nicht abgeschlossen oder im Entwurfstadium verblieben; ferner zwei Niederschriften zu Griechenlandreisen, die "in der Zwiesprache mit Holderlins Dichtung" unternommen wurden. Es ist nicht die gesamte Hinterlassenschaft Heideggers zu dem Dichter; er selbst verweist auf "Uberlegungen. zu Holderlin", die in der Folge der "Uberlegungen" (des Textes der "Schwarzen Hefte") verbleiben und in den entsprechenden Banden der Abteilung IV erscheinen werden. Bis auf den Text der ersten Griechenlandreise, der seit 1989 unter dem Titel "Aufenthalte" als Einzelpublikation vorliegt, handelt es sich um Erstveroffentlichungen. Um wieviel umfangreicher noch Heideggers Bemuhungen gewesen sind, das Gedichtete Holderlins nach-zudenken, erhellt aus seinem Vermerk, dass er ein "Manuskript von 92 Seiten" zu Holderlins Empedokles vernichtet hat. Niederschriften zu Holderlins "Germanien", zu "Andenken" und "Der Ister", uber welche Hymnen Heidegger schon im Druck vorliegende Vorlesungen gehalten hat - uber "Andenken" erschien ferner eine Abhandlung in der Gedenkschrift zu Holderlins 100. Todestag 1943 - zeigen, wie lange ihn diese Dichtungen intensiv beschaftigt haben. Aufzeichnungen und Entwurfe zu "Brod und Wein", "Ermunterung", "Dichterberuf", "Mnemosyne", zu den "Empedokles"-Bruchstucken und den Ubersetzungen der Pindarfragmente setzen zu jeweils besonderen Ausblicken an, oft mit Verweisen auf eine Vorlesung oder eine Holderlin-Erlauterung. Eine der bedeutendsten Arbeiten Heideggers zu Holderlin ist der Dialog "Das abendlandische Gesprach", in dem er von der Hymne "Der Ister" aus - viele andere Gedichte mitsprechen lassend - das geschickliche Wort der Dichtung Holderlins zu erhellen unternimmt. Laut eigenhandigem Vermerk ist der Dialog "nicht abgeschlossen", doch wird zu fragen sein, ob er nicht, wie Heidegger es von dem abbrechenden "Ister"-Gesang bedenkt, "gerade in diesem Abbrechen vollendet" ist. Aufzeichnungen unter dem Titel "Die Fuge der Huld. Der Dank" stehen im Gedachten und in der Form den "Beitragen zur Philosophie" (HGA Bd. 65) nahe; sie deuten auf die innere Einheit des "Ereignis"-Gedankens mit Heideggers Verstandnis Holderlins. In den Griechenlandreisen beruft Heidegger den griechischen Anfang der abendlandischen Geschichte mit dem wiederholten Blick auf "die wissenschaftliche Industrialisierung der Welt" (wozu der "Tourismus" gehort), deren Menschen "ohne Gottliches. ans eigene Treiben geschmiedet allein. viel arbeiten mit gewaltigem Arm, rastlos", wie er Holderlin zitiert. In der Werkstatt der Entwurfe diskutiert Heidegger mit Holderlin-Philologen, aber die eigenen Konzepte auch mit sich selbst; es geht vom entschiedenen Verwerfen anderer Auffassungen bis zum erfreuten Anerkennen nahezu vorlauferhafter Einsichten.
