La figura del intelectual, cineasta y escritor italiano Pier Paolo Pasolini (1922–1975) esta fatal e irremediablemente ligada a Roma. El poeta civil mas importante de Italia —segun Alberto Moravia— llega a la capital en 1950 acompanado de su madre al tener que huir de su Friuli natal. Romanas seran sus primeras peliculas, Accattone (1961), Mamma Roma (1962), La ricota (1963) y Pajaritos y pajarracos (1966); romanas seran sus novelas Chavales del arroyo (1955) y Una vida violenta (1959); y romanos sus poemarios Las cenizas de Gramsci (1957), La religion de mi tiempo (1961) y Poesia en forma de rosa (1964). En muchas de sus obras Roma es la propia protagonista: Pasolini cartografia obsesivamente su geografia y da testimonio de la vida del subproletariado que habita sus margenes. La Roma de Pasolini no es la Roma de los biempensantes ni de los turistas, sino la Roma del extrarradio, de la pobreza, la Roma de los tugurios, muladares y terraplenes entre solares, regatos y ruinas. Es la Roma de la miseria de la posguerra y la del milagro economico de los sesenta criticado por el autor al final de su vida. Maravillosa y misera ciudad recoge casi todos los poemas de tema romano de Pasolini, y con ellos recoge tambien la contradiccion intrinseca de una ciudad que, en palabras del poeta, es «macabro desconsuelo y alucinada alegria». Con el mismo espiritu andariego con el que Pasolini recorre incansable, a pie o en tranvia, las calles y los barrios de la ciudad, esta edicion ofrece unas «Notas a pie de Roma», una especie de glosario literario-guia de viaje que deambula con erudicion y deleite por la historia y la geografia de la periferia romana y su relacion con Pasolini. Cierran el volumen dos breves ensayos escritos para la ocasion, donde el arquitecto Francesco Careri y el poeta Franco Buffoni reflexionan, desde su propia experiencia con la ciudad, sobre el vinculo entre Pasolini, Roma y la poesia. TRADUCEN: Maria Bastianes (Buenos Aires, 1984) es investigadora y traductora. Especialista en historia del teatro europeo del siglo XX , se doctoro por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid en 2016, y desde entonces ha trabajado en la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, la Universidad de Leeds (con un contrato «Marie Curie»), y la Universidad Complutense. Como traductora ha trabajado con la poesia de Franco Fortini y el teatro de Pablo Messiez. Entre sus publicaciones cabe mencionar tambien su monografico sobre la Vida escenica de «La Celestina» en Espana (1909- 1919) (Peter Lang, 2020). Andres Catalan (Salamanca, 1983) es editor, poeta y traductor. Es autor de Composiciones de lugar (Universidad Popular Jose Hierro, 2010, Premio Felix Grande), Mantener la cadena de frio, en coautoria con Ben Clark, (Pre-Textos, 2012, Premio RNE), Ahora solo bebo te (Pre-Textos, 2013, Premio Emilio Prados) y Variaciones romanas (Pre-Textos, 2021). En 2015 obtuvo la beca «Valle Inclan» de la Academia de Espana en Roma. Ha traducido, entre otros, libros de Seamus Heaney, Isaac Bashevis Singer, John Berryman, Anne Carson, Robert Hass, Edna St. Vincent Millay y Louise Gluck y ha preparado ediciones de la poesia completa de Robert Frost y Robert Lowell.
