About the Book

Reviews: "I picked up Man's Best Friend: Sic Em after reading the premise alone. I usually do far more research into a book before purchasing however for this I took a gamble that certainly paid off. There is something about a serial killer dog that is so unique and intriguing, yet plausible, that I had to see what happened. Shay Mills certainly did not disappoint. Sam was from the start and likeable and endearing character. The author packs a great amount of personality and development into such a short story, and she has some great interactions with Kayla, Bethany and Jake as she seeks to solve the mystery of the dog attacks. I also liked the perspective of Detective Simpson and Coleman as they seek to understand what is happening, leading them to interviewing Max. And the ending - it's amazing how one line can leave me reeling, confused and thrilled at the same time. My whole perspective on what I had just read changed. This book kept me thinking for a long time after I closed it's pages. What a twist and a masterclass in pulling something like this off! I cannot recommend this book enough. It's short, engaging, and, like the dog it features, it packs some serious bite." - ADG, Amazon "From the very beginning of the book you see how bad Max is, and then when you keep reading, you find out why, and how his whole family was turned upside down when his mother left. With a drunk and drugged out father, a psychotic dog, and a beautiful sister who only wants to escape her life, Max gets crazier every day until......the tension and suspense of the book had me hooked from the first page, and my heart has been pounding throughout the story. All I can say is that if you like suspenseful thrillers, you have got to read this one!" - Julie Martin, Amazon "This book keeps you looking around from beginning to end as it explores the worst of this world. The writing is crisp but detailed and the "murder mystery" aspect is perfectly executed throughout. Well done!" - Casey, Amazon
SynopsisIn the Pacific Northwest resides a quaint little town, Eagle Rock, where time stands still, crime is nonexistent, and locals know each other by first name. It's an idyllic town of corner cafés and local barbershops, and no McDonald's. So picturesque, that when folks began to die from dog attacks, the small town erupts in fear, wondering who could be next.
Sam lives a mild-mannered, trailer park life looking after her little sister, caring for her drunk father, and watching over her brothers. High school graduation is looming, woes of virginity hang overhead, and on top of it all, her perverted brother won't stop pushing his affection on her. Though her thoughts are on leaving the lazy life, the dog attacks will pull her in deeper than she'd ever imagined.
With suspicions lingering, and thoughts of betrayal swimming through Sam's mind, it's a race for her and her friends to find out once and for all: is it feral dogs, or is it man's best friend, killing as their owner wishes?
This thriller-crime drama is full of twists and arcs that will keep you guessing. It's not about who might be killing Sam's friends; it's about surviving and proving, beyond a shadow of a doubt, what is really responsible for the murders in Eagle Rock!
