Manipulating is the use of something, a paper, a stone, a pencil, a piece of cloth, etc., to achieve an objective that a person has. Things are manipulated. However, many people consider other people as things and handle them, manage them, as if they were. The manipulation of people is a degradation of human dignity since each person has an incalculable value, which deserves all respect for their nature as such. He who manipulates uses others as if they were things, like who takes off or puts on a sock. How vile is this action!
He who manages not to recognize the dignity of others, who are reduced to the condition of things. "You are one thing! I use you while you serve me! As long as you satisfy some of my whims, pleasures, or intentions! "This is the mentality of the manipulator. He doesn't care about people. He only cares about achieving his goals and satisfying his wishes. Manipulation is the most degrading thing for the human person.
Every person who uses others to achieve their desires is a manipulator. For example, whoever uses pornography or goes with a prostitute, manipulates the woman because they use the woman to satisfy their pleasures; or whoever cheats for personal benefits, such as committing fraud in the corner shop: "I cheated the shopkeeper! He didn't realize that what I told him was pure lies." There are several forms of manipulation. Some manipulate one person, others entire populations. In both cases, the manipulator seeks, as we said, to satisfy their interests.
Someone who manipulates a person can be a parent who uses their children to satisfy their comfort or whim. He wants his children, or his wife, or her husband, to do what he wants. For example, when the father violently demands to be treated at home, regardless of the fatigue of others, or their personal needs. He does not care and orders that everyone is at his full service. Or when a mother threatens her children and tells them to leave her alone so she can watch her soap operas, regardless of the tasks, needs or difficulties of her children. "Go to your room and don't bother me!"
When manipulation seeks that a whole population behaves however one or a few want them to do so. For example, many advertisements find the community to buy this or that product, without explaining whether it is necessary or not. They look for the pennies of the inhabitants, and nothing more. They don't care what is going to happen. An extreme case is a drug. The drug dealer's only interest is the drug addict's money. He does not care what the latter is going to cause or damage.
