oung children experience a wide range of emotions when presented with
challenges in their learning. These emotions, such as stress and anxiety,
can lead to physical symptoms of distress yet these can be supported
proactively by having children explore appropriate strategies to cope
with them. Magic PIE is our first book to help and guide children to use
an effective breathing strategy as a tool when faced with overwhelming
emotions while in school.
This book is intended to address the social-emotional-learning (S.E.L.) skills
in Mathematical Processes and has a direct connection with Ontario Math
Curriculum. The SEL skills aim at helping students, identify and manage
emotions, express and manage feelings, all while they engage positively
in mathematics activities. On the other hand, these feelings and emotions
can be emerging in many other situations regardless of the subject area.
Therefore, this book and the skills within have relevance in many different
areas in the day-to-day life of a child.
Through this book, young minds may find connections to the situations
that affect them, sensations that they feel as a result of anxieties and
worries and the coping strategies that can be helpful to them.
