He also authored Davidson’s Principles And Practices of Medicine. John MacLeod received his medical degree from Edinburgh University in 1938. He served as a Major in the Second World War in the Royal Army Medical Corps. In 1950, he started to work as a consultant physician in Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. MacLeod’s textbooks have sold millions of copies worldwide, and were also translated into several languages. Apart from medicine, he was also interested in art, and therefore frequently lectured about the use of art in medicine. He passed away at the age of 90, in April 2006.
