About the Book

Macleod's Clinical Examination (With DVD and Student Consult Access) is a useful guide which outlines fundamental clinical skills such as patient evaluation, examination, and various diagnostic procedures, which every clinician is required to develop. Summary Of The Book Macleod's Clinical Examination (With DVD and Student Consult Access) is a hand book and reference tool for every practicing clinician and clinical teacher. The text describes necessary practical skills that every clinician needs to acquire and perfect, in order to have effective diagnostic procedures and clinical management. The text begins with an overview on taking the details of the patient’s medical history and general examination. It also covers special investigations and the ways of offering advice to patients on significant findings. The information in this book complements Davidson’s Principles & Practice of Medicine. As an added bonus, students now have access to Student Consult, an online portal which provides videos of key clinical demonstrations. The 12th edition of the text is written by a team of editors who themselves are practising clinicians or teachers in the field. This new edition builds on previous editions with new information as well as supplementary material. It contains more than 500 clinical photos and diagrams. The book also comes equipped with a DVD which demonstrates more than two hours of clinical examination procedures which are mentioned in the text. Some other features which are a new addition to this text include a new chapter on the principles of patient examination, and additional chapters on skin, the endocrine system, and eye examinations. Chapters focusing on pre-operative assessment and the examination to confirm the occurrence of death are a new addition to this edition. For study purposes, the editors have also included more than fifty clinical examples which are used in MB and or MRCP exams. Macleod's Clinical Examination (With DVD and Student Consult Access) is divided into three sections, History Taking and General Examination, Systemic Examination, and Specific Situations. Some of the specific topics covered in this text are Approach To The Patient, Cardiovascular System, Ear, Nose, and Throat, Respiratory System, Renal System, Gastrointestinal System, Confirming Death, Baby and Children, and Assessing for Sedation and Anaesthesia. In 2006, Macleod's Clinical Examination (With DVD and Student Consult Access) received a high commendation from the British Medical Association’s Book Competition. Macleod's Clinical Examination (With DVD and Student Consult Access) was published in 2009 by Elsevier. About John MacLeod John MacLeod was a doctor and medical writer of Scottish descent. He also authored Davidson’s Principles And Practices of Medicine. John MacLeod received his medical degree from Edinburgh University in 1938. He served as a Major in the Second World War in the Royal Army Medical Corps. In 1950, he started to work as a consultant physician in Western General Hospital in Edinburgh.
