About the Book

The M Function Based on NK Formula of Stuart Kauffman Richard Baker and Michael Baron, Ph.D. M= f (e, in) is a statement of the NK formula proposed by Dr. Kauffman as the process by which "an agent may search a landscape by manipulating various characteristics of itself." It is a statement of theory proposed in a mathematical form that generates "the invisible hand" Dr. Kauffman predicted that we were able to populate with data from our sample. As a result we have been able to empirically validate the research originally presented in Bourdieu's Demon (See Figures 1 and 2) in The Santa Fe Conjecture, in the tests reported in Premium Knowledge and most recently in the M (Meme) Function Careful analysis of real life data from 2500 plus affluent individuals reported in our first volume demonstrates that these respondents did just as sociologists and biologist Richard Dawkins predicted. They constructed complexes of objects, images and relations (LifeStyles) to match the visions and memories in their minds. In our presentation we review the how each of the very recognizable elements of the M Function formula (M= f (e, in)) works in our daily lives: -"e" are the five categories of personal needs that are the sources of all energy; -"I" are the multiple sources of information and personal experience, and the rates and ratios in which we consume them. -Most significantly "f" is the overall algorithm that (in the chart, above) determines if our needs are consuming and transforming information into memes at an overall red, yellow or green "rate" and that spins us into a socio-economic "laminate" with similar "cells." The M Function is a dynamic force within individuals and among individuals. Because the M Function is a pure mixture of energy and information it is restructuring the economy as well society. The "division of labor" is now based on a division of information and a division of communication. As the empirical validation of the M Function demonstrated, significant increases in communication and commercial efficiency result from application of M Function Memes. The NK model is a mathematical model described by its primary inventor Stuart Kauffman as a "tunably rugged "fitness landscape. "Tunable ruggedness" captures the intuition that both the overall size of the landscape and the number of its local "hills and valleys" can be adjusted via changes to its two parameters. All of the approximately 300 variables that were included for use as raw data in M Formula items (e) and (i), all qualitative terms drawn from primary research of American culture
About the Author: Dr. Michael Baron is Professor at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, the American University. Supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, the National Security Agency, the Actuarial Foundation, and the Semiconductor Technical Council, he conducts research in the areas of sequential analysis, change-point detection, and Bayesian inference, applying obtained results in epidemiology, clinical trials, cyber security, energy finance, and semiconductor manufacturing. The last application brought M. Baron to IBM T. J. Watson Research Center, where he was a one-year Academic Visitor in 2003-04. M. Baron has published three books, a number of research articles and book chapters, and gave an even greater number of invited presentations and seminars. In 2007 M. Baron received Abraham Wald prize for the best paper in sequential analysis, and in 2013 he was elected a Fellow of the American Statistical Association. Currently, he serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Sequential Analysis. He is a member of the American Statistical Association and the International Society for Bayesian Analysis. M. Baron has a University Diploma in Mathematics from St. Petersburg State University, Russia (1992), and a PhD degree in Statistics from the University of Maryland (1995). His University Diploma paper entitled "On the First Passage Time for Queueing Processes" was supervised by Prof. Ildar Ibragimov, and his doctoral dissertation "Confidence Estimation in the Change-Point Problem" was supervised by Prof. Andrew Rukhin. In his turn, M. Baron graduated nine doctoral students and is currently working on three more. Degrees PhD, Maryland Baltimore County, Statistics, 1995 MS, State University of St. Petersburg (Russia), Mathematics, 1992. Richard Baker is a serial entrepreneur in the applied behavioral sciences. He founded Baker & Co. with the assistance of David Kolb, Ph.D. of Case Western Reserve. Together they develop several very successful problem-solving applications based on Kolb's Experiential Learning research. Mr. Baker founded Premium Knowledge Company (PKG) after the sale of Baker and Company. The objective was to understand the motives of affluent consumers when making decisions regarding use of discretionary time and money. The proceeds from the sale of the previous company were invested in developing unique research data, analyzed by Dr. Baron, which has revealed the M Function.
