About the Book

"Lucky: The Vampire" is not your typical vampire story. It brings together the worst aspects of human behavior with the inevitable consequences which that behavior brings. It also subtly reveals that the essence of the worst behavior often goes unnoticed but lurks in the heart of every person who walks the face of the earth. "Lucky: The Vampire" is a window to the human soul and a warning to those who take their soul for granted. Lucky himself is a depiction of Satan. His lust for the blood of the malicious and disdain for moral men is accompanied by deception and destruction. He can sense the evil in a person and delights in being the instrument of retribution. "Lucky: The Vampire" is in fact a book about the death penalty, a subject preachers are divided on. The death penalty is a necessary responsibility of government but not for the sake of the death penalty alone. Lucky's victims are fictional enhancements of real men who have been executed in the Texas death chamber. Each one chosen for the story went to his grave with no indication of remorse. "Lucky: The Vampire" is about the cases which death penalty opponents don't talk about. Why would a preacher write a vampire book? It tells a story that should be told. In this age of collapsing morals, it is a warning of the seething evil that lies just underneath our skin. Although the book is fiction, it is inspired by and based on the lives of actual executed offenders from Texas Death Row. The names, places and dates are all changed, but the essence of the heinous crimes is intact. Lucky, the vampire, prowls the land through the centuries hunting the most corrupt and evil people he can find because their blood taste much better to him than the blood of the average person. He relishes the hunt, the taunting, and the torturous execution of his victims. "Lucky - The Vampire" is not a romance novel with vampire characters. It is true horror in many respects, from the horrible deeds the victims perpetrate to the merciless vampire who stalks and kills them. You may find yourself pulling for Lucky. He's an avenging angel that, because of his peculiar taste in blood, hunts the most vile and depraved criminals among us.
About the Author: Richard Sones grew up as the eldest son of an Army Signal Corps officer and, as such, lived all over the world. Moving frequently, he attended army chapels and benefitted by learning under the guidance of chaplains from many different Christian denominations. After earning a Master's degree in Divinity, he was ordained as the pastor of a small, 150 year old church in rural Virginia. As an advantage of growing up in the military and serving as an army chaplain himself, Richard took the opportunities to explore first hand many of the historical sites of the church. Now retired from the army after serving nearly 28 years, he continues in ministry as the chaplain of a major hospital in El Paso, Texas where he lives with his wife of 35 years. His four children are grown and on their own adventures in life. Richard enjoys teaching as much as any aspect of ministry. He has a heart and knack for taking complicated themes and making them easy to understand. Due largely to the leadership training he received over the course of his military career, he is adept at putting things in perspective, cutting through the fluff, and getting to the meat of a topic.
