Lucian's True History or A True Story was written in the second century AD by Lucian of Samosata, a Greek-speaking author of Assyrian descent. It is a satirical novel of outlandish tales originating from ancient sources, depicted fantastical or mythical events as if they were true. It is Lucian's best-known work.
This novel is the earliest known work of fiction to incorporate outer space travel, aliens, and interplanetary warfare. It has been described as "the first known text that could be called science fiction." However, it's multilayered story line and complex characters have often also been considered fantasy, satire, or parody. Lucian's True Story does not exactly adhere to typical literary genres and this interesting topic has been a subject of scholarly debate.
This beautiful reprint of the original book has preserved Lucian's True History for your reading pleasure. It will make a wonderful gift for the sci-fi fan in your life or a wonderful addition to your library of classic literature. Enjoy!

Thus for seven days' space and so many nights were we driven along in that manner, and on the eighth day we came in view of a great country in the air, like to a shining island, of a round proportion, gloriously glittering with light, and approaching to it, we there arrived, and took land, and surveying the country, we found it to be both inhabited and husbanded..."
