About the Book

With Bull Schaffner as a long-haul truck driver and private-eye wannabe, author John Aalborg provides a trucker's eye view into lives normally invisible to the public and the law, and brings you back shocked, deeply touched, and strangely happy. First in a new series, "Lowboy #22" is the story of a missing, semi trailer-truck and its mysterious cargo. With an intelligent demeanor which barely fits his handle and robust appearance, Bull reveals a darker side as he encounters a resourceful career criminal and murderer in the form of an elegant but armed and dangerous old lady; a set of beautiful, Haitian, deaf-mute, twin girls; a pet monkey with serious needs owned by a thieving and ambitious nymphet; and the return of Bull's vivacious, resourceful, and ever-horny sister, Janey, who steers her oft-bewildered brother through the clues and pitfalls of the case he has just taken on. Operating outside the law themselves, Bull and Janey slog through one crisis after another, trailing gory murders along their route from rural Florida to the West Virginia hills to a truck terminal in Missouri to a young love-story amidst the magic of the Miami River. When the Lowboy #22 case comes to an abrupt close, questions regarding other crimes brought to light along the way has readers begging for a sequel. Tough-guy action/drama but where tougher women rule. The series characters are drawn from the "Axel McKay"(c) radio plays previously aired coast-to-coast on the WLAC Nashville Network and sponsored by Ford and Caterpillar. Here, however, the players burst onto the scene uncensored and in full color. Romance, tough-guy drama, but where the women rule!
About the Author: In addition to his monthly trucking column, radio plays, novels, and internationally published cover stories, John Aalborg has an exciting history of working jobs rich in personal experience: three years living large off the German black market, culminating in his being deported back to the USA (but without his rare, 1947 Mercedes roadster). Six years as a licensed locksmith in the "Magic City" of Miami, where many of his less than ethical assignments were for law enforcement; five years as an EMT for a backwoods, Florida panhandle hospital and ambulance crew; many more years driving long-haul for interstate trucking companies; and winter respites from the road working the graveyard shift at fuel-stops on exits off I-10, where he packed a gun and took care of his own law enforcement. From an obscure hidey-hole in the deep south, Aalborg takes his readers into worlds the average person would love to get a window into, but from the safe side of bullet-proof glass. There is a mysterious aspect to big trucks - eighteen-wheelers which the average citizen can see but cannot see inside - trucks so huge that only some men and women can master driving them. Trucks providing experiences often too harrowing or bizarre for most people to want to even try, with drivers out of the public eye when they dock, when they fuel, and when they lay over during the night - if they stop during the night at all. Despite the foreboding most citizens feel when getting too close to semi trailer-trucks on the interstate, in LOWBOY #22 a unique, risky, and beautiful young-love story emerges from within the crimes and adventures. A love story the reader will not forget.
