Los Griegos Remembered chronicles life in a farming settlement along the banks of the Rio Grande in the early 1900s. The stories told here are true. The villagers all had different backgrounds: the curandera, the farmer, the rich, and the poor. Today, Los Griegos is one of Albuquerque's Spanish neighborhoods.
This book had its beginning when the author decided to organize old family photos-some taken more than 100 years ago. Working through the pictures it occurred to her that they should be made available to others rather than sit in an old box in an old trunk. The text comes alive with reproductions of more than 100 of these photos.
Vera Pedroncelli was born Christmas Eve in Los Griegos, New Mexico, a Hispanic village absorbed by Albuquerque. She has always lived in Los Griegos, and although she is not an outdoor person, she considers the rural life of the North Valley the ideal place.
Vera attended Albuquerque Public Schools. She recently discovered a Certificate of Award for Scholarship given to her when she was in the second grade; she is very proud of it. She graduated from Albuquerque High. She chose Albuquerque High so that she could take the business curriculum the school offered.
During her lifetime, Vera has traveled the world. She has visited Europe, Mexico, Central America, South America, the Orient, and almost all the states in the United States. Vera has always loved to read. She loves reading anything and everything, except romance and violence. "You should have your own romance, not just read about it," she said. Vera is also very creative. She sews, quilts, embroiders, paints, cooks, and has now written a book.
