About the Book

English summary: Psalm 103 is characterized by its religious-historical meaning and reception in Christianity. Ann-Cathrin Fia shows that Psalm 103, even in its development, is a theologically reflective text, which presents different receptive traditions from all three parts of the later canon. The author presents the importance of the psalm as a textual tool for later texts, which developed into an early type of theological compendia. The period of development for this psalm has been dated to around the third century before Christ and Fia focuses her work on the inner thematic coherence of the psalm, which she interprets in terms of motif history. Following Paul Ricoeur, Fia' study approaches the exegetical interpretation of Psalm 103 buy seeing the interaction of its contents as a discursive act. Following the hermeneutic approach to this psalm, Fia shows that the comprehensive content of the text is first revealed only when a text is understood as an individual and as part of an imaginary world. The meaning of the imaginary world is interpreted by the author by using texts written before the psalm, such as the "Sabbath Sacrifice Song" from the Qumran texts and parts of the Book of Jubilees. Psalm 103 offers a well-developed theology of grace that arises from the psalms understanding of the formula of grace found in Exodus (Ex 34:6f). Gnadenformel (Ex 34,6f) entsteht.
