Lo Sri Lanka visto attraverso l'analisi delle opere di due scrittori: l'inglese Leonard Woolf ai tempi dell'Impero Britannico e la singalese Chandani Lokugé agli inizi del Ventunesimo secolo.Leonard Woolf lavorò a Ceylon dal 1904 al 1911, quando rassegnò le dimissioni anche a causa della crescente avversione per il colonialismo. Nel suo romanzo The Village in the Jungle (1913), la giungla viene usata come metafora dell'Impero che divora tutto ciò che incontra sul suo cammino, mentre l'originalità dei suoi personaggi sta nell'essere quasi tutti di umile estrazione sociale e non-bianchi.Chandani Lokugé è cresciuta a Colombo, ma risiede in Australia dal 1987. Nel suo secondo romanzo Turtle Nest (2003) affronta temi importanti come la ricerca dell'identità e il turismo sessuale. La diciottenne Aruni decide di tornare in Sri Lanka dopo dieci anni trascorsi in Australia, scoprendo così suo malgrado di essere considerata una forestiera dagli stessi abitanti del luogo con cui cerca disperatamente di identificarsi.
About the Author: Consuelo Murgia nasce a Roma il 26 luglio 1983 da padre sardo e madre d'origine abruzzese, ma di fatto ha sempre vissuto in provincia. Nel 2002 consegue la maturità scientifica con 100/100. Nel 2005 si laurea in lingue con 110 e lode e nel 2008 consegue anche la laurea magistrale, sempre con il massimo dei voti. Spinta dalla sua passione per la letteratura postcoloniale, scrive la prima tesi su Andrea Levy e la Black British Literature, mentre la seconda è incentrata sullo Sri Lanka. Nel 2004 effettua uno stage presso la redazione magazine di RaiNews24 e nel 2005 riceve una borsa di studio per un corso di tedesco a Vienna. Nell'anno scolastico 2006-2007 lavora in Austria come assistente di lingua italiana, grazie all'apposito bando del Ministero dell'Istruzione. Nell'estate del 2007 invece insegna italiano presso la Sociedad Italo-Mexicana Dante Alighieri di Monterrey. Una volta conclusi gli studi universitari, inizia a collaborare con vari istituti di ricerche di mercato e centri di formazione di Roma, oltre a lavorare come traduttrice per agenzie di traduzione sia in Italia che all'estero. I suoi quattro diari di viaggio in Messico sono stati pubblicati sul sito www.paesionline.it, mentre una poesia e un racconto sono apparsi sulla rivista SitoPreferito Magazine. Il racconto Monteperdido è stato invece pubblicato da Robin Edizioni nell'edizione 2010 della raccolta Racconti di Provincia.
