Marshall McLuhan era molto spiritoso e si divertiva anche a fare il verso a se stesso con grande intelligenza. Il figlio Eric sostiene che il titolo del libro "The Medium is the Massage", pubblicato per la prima volta nel 1967, sia il risultato di un refuso del tipografo, che nelle bozze riportò "Massage" anziché "Message". McLuhan, padre, decise di mantenere l'errore, che creava un involontario gioco di parole (mass-age) nel pieno spirito della sua celebre frase "il mezzo è il messaggio". Sempre McLuhan a proposito di sport e mezzi di comunicazione, anzi di sport come mezzo di comunicazione sosteneva in Understanding Media, esattamente sessant'anni fa: "Il baseball è contemporaneo del primo affermarsi dei giornali scandalistici e del cinema. Resterà sempre un simbolo dell'epoca delle red hot mamas, dei pionieri del jazz, degli sceicchi, delle donne fatali, delle vamp, delle ragazze a caccia di quattrini e del denaro facile. È insomma un gioco caldo che si è raffreddato nel nuovo clima televisivo come quasi tutti gli ardenti politici e le questioni scottanti dei decenni precedenti". Esattamente trent'anni fa, il 18 maggio 1994, nel giro di qualche ora Silvio Berlusconi ottiene la fiducia al Senato per il suo nuovo governo e il Milan stravince la Coppa dei Campioni. Presidente del Milan e presidente del Consiglio, forza Milan e Forza Italia, lo sport come mezzo, strumento di consenso e propaganda. Il cambio di paradigma calcistico e politico, ma anche la svolta di un'epoca. Cambia lo sport e la società italiana in un. Intreccio di rapporti ed effetti tra calcio e vita pubblica, tra cuore e interessi economici, tra "fede" e governo delle "masse".
