About the Book
"If you are the happiest when you are on vacation, and you dread the day you have to report back to your desk - this is a book for you!" - the Author This is a heartwarming story of two die-hard New Yorkers' who abandoned their big city life in the midst of a pandemic for a path of discovery, adventure, and a renewed excitement for life. With their dream destination wedding postponed indefinitely, all travel canceled, and their life confined to a small apartment, they dared to break free and leave for the unknown.
They traded city comforts for a life in the woods, in the mountains, and under the palm trees. They hiked forgotten trails, they kayaked pristine lakes, paddle boarded to secret beaches. They cut their living expenses in half. With no daily commute, they gained countless hours back, picked up surfing, and learned a new language. They also got married and embarked on an endless tropical honeymoon surfing waves into the sunset. Most of all, they have been happier, healthier, and had more fun than ever! Here is their story. From the Author: For years, I wanted to read a book about a transition from a desk life to an office-free, worldbound life. I was looking for a guide to living where others vacation. I wanted to see that someone else did it because if they succeeded, I definitely could, too!
I came across many books that I found very intriguing, but I wasn't seeing the answers I was looking for. I didn't want to quit my job, take a sabbatical, take a mini-retirement, work only 4 hours a week, get rich quick, work a job I hate to retire young, or wait a quarter of a century to retire. I didn't want any of these. I wanted to keep my job, continue my career, but live a life I don't need to vacation or retire from. I knew there must be a way to do it.
I love to write, but I only write about topics that I'm truly passionate about-living where others vacation is just that. I knew that I had to write this book for me, for you, for anyone who shares my curiosity about living a different life, a better life, how about the best possible life. We have only one, after all!
We believe that work from anywhere will prove to be the greatest disruption and the biggest lifestyle upgrade in a century. Instead of being afraid of it, we chose to embrace it fully and make the best of it.
We invite you on an adventure with us. An adventure that took us from a stuffy apartment with a heater and chicken noodle soup keeping us warm to the palm tree-lined beaches, fresh mangos, juicy pineapples, and avocados to die for. What a change of fortune it's been! If working from anywhere and living where others vacation is your dream, and you need more inspiration, encouragement, or guidance, this is a book for you. If you are a daydreamer living a life you'd love to change, like I was for so long, this is a book for you. If you already embarked on your dream life, and you are looking for new ideas, where to head next, this is also a book for you.
From the Introduction:
"It's a warm evening; I can hear the waves crashing. I see the palms sway in the wind. I love Caribbean evenings. It was another lovely day. We surfed a bit, went for a sunset walk, and spent the afternoon reading. It wasn't just a vacation day. That's what our life has been for three months already. That's not how the year 2020 started for us, though, and it wasn't the straightest and easiest path from there to now. We ran into a more than fair share of obstacles, and surprises: from a worldwide pandemic to lockdowns, canceled travel, closed borders, car trouble, broken scooter, rattlesnakes, scorpions, jellyfish burns, two earthquakes, fallen trees, power outages, record rainfalls and more. I honestly still wake up, rub my eyes, and wonder if we are living this new dream life or all of it was just an illusion. I fear that the minute I wake up, it will all burst and vanish because it's too good to be true, and none of it ever happened
