About the Book

Did you love "Lonesome Dove," "Appaloosa," or the movie "Django Unchained?"If so, then you've found the book for you. "Little Man, and the Dixon County War" begins with action and ends with action, barely letting up from its fast start to its incredible, heart-stopping end. From literally the first sentence, you'll see why it's climbed as high as No. 16 on the Amazon UK Paid List.Book Description: Young Deputy Marshal Paul Zachary shouldn't have accepted that badge. And he certainly shouldn't have shot down a ruthless gunfighter in front of a crowd of onlookers at Belleville's busiest saloon. Now that the smell of gunpowder has faded and the blood has been scrubbed off the floor, Zachary is something he never wanted to be: a damned hero. He's been written up in the papers and has more trouble on his hands than any 27-year-old man should ever have. But, Paul Zachary's no pushover. He learned to fight, and fight hard, from being the youngest in a tough line of men who've never missed a war. And, Zachary just survived three long, hard years in a ragtag, Rebel cavalry troop, charged with raiding Northern towns.Unfortunately for Zachary, his fame proves a threat to a cruel cattle baron named McConnell, who's growing his empire by leaps and bounds. McConnell has bribed or buried every man who's ever stood up to him and he soon sets his sights on Paul Zachary, now known throughout the West as "Little Man."McConnell can't have some young lawman giving people hope, so he puts in motion a particularly cruel and devious plan. He's killed Zachary's best friend and abducted the man's wife. McConnell has forced Zachary to come after him in a godforsaken stretch of country known by the locals as Devil's County (listed as Dixon County on the maps). This is McConnell's world, and he owns most of the land and all of the law. Now, the young lawman -- Paul "Little Man" Zachary -- will attempt what even the Army couldn't pull off: cleaning out the lair of the nearly one hundred murderers and thieves who answer only to McConnell.
About the Author: Stan R. Mitchell writes action-packed thrillers, which readers have compared to the works of Vince Flynn, Stephen Hunter, and Tom Clancy. Mitchell earned a journalism degree from the University of Tennessee and spent 10+ years doing relentless, deadline-required writing in the newspaper business. Prior to college and his days in the newspaper world learning how government works, Mitchell was a former USMC Sergeant, who earned a Combat Action Ribbon in '97 while serving in the infantry with Alpha Co., 1st Battalion, 8th Marines. (Operation Silver Wake.) Besides this mission into harm's way, his platoon also served as the Covering Force for the elite Marine Force Recon Unit that deployed with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, Special Operations Capable (MEUSOC). In addition to working with Marine Force Recon perfecting Direct Action missions, his platoon had the privilege to operate with the Navy Seals, training at the art of fast roping and ship takedowns. Mitchell lives in Oak Ridge, Tenn., with his wife Danah, and in his free time, he enjoys writing action thrillers, practicing martial arts, and studying Eastern philosophy.
