About the Book

Ms. Blackbird is a single mom who used to fly high but neglected to share that with her daughter. Maybe it was because she didn't want to face her new disability. Not sharing that information created a disability in her daughter's mind. She also faced the loss of another child at birth. The story addresses Joy's journey. You see Joy's friend Motivae the white dove can fly and would say to Joy, "Come fly with me and see a world filled with success and beauty." Joy would look at Motivae and say, "Don't you know that blackbirds can't fly, look at my mother she would cry." See how Joy overcomes her disability. Joy perseveres even after she is bullied. I have had a 4yr old child with selective mutism say after reading the story, "Mommy maybe I'm like the little blackbird, if I try harder maybe I can speak in school." A 17yr old said after reading the story, "At first I thought this was a kids book but after I read it it was the most inspiring book I have ever read." A 16yr old said after reading it, "Mom, I'm going to pursue my dream to be a doctor." Canadian Supermodel Stacey McKenzie said, "I LOVE IT!!! Reminds me of the struggles/obstacles in the beginning of my career and I still continue to endure, so inspiring Aubrey!" Stay tuned for the Sequel to 'Fly Little Blackbird Fly' called "It's Not Over Until it's Over" It's the story about the egg that didn't hatch. The song is also available for download on Amazon. Fly Little Blackbird Soundtrack.
About the Author: Aubrey Clarke was born in Georgetown Guyana and immigrated to Canada as a young boy. Aubrey worked with children for a number of years. He worked as a Youth Leader for the City of Toronto's Parks and Recreational Programs and as a Community Youth Leader and mentor at one of Toronto's largest evangelical churches. Sam & Rita Burke, Aubrey's uncle and aunt were both educators and opened one of Canada's largest African / Caribbean and Multicultural bookstores called Burke's. That was where Aubrey fell in love with children's literature. Through selling books to schools, childcare centres, teacher conferences, and community events Aubrey's passion for children's literature grew; He was already writing poetry and performing spoken word across North America then fell into storytelling naturally. "Fly Little Black Bird Fly", was written in 1998 after Aubrey attended his first Harry Jerome Awards. There he was inspired to write a story that would touch, effect, empower and change lives positively. Aubrey, a man of many talents also wrote the lyrics to the song "Fly Fly Way Up High", that is featured in "Fly Little Blackbird Fly." In 2001, Aubrey left telecommunications and ventured into radio where he worked as an Account Executive at Canada's first Urban Radio Station. He later started his own media/ media sales and marketing company called Envision Urban Media Sales and Marketing and is currently under contract with one of Canada's largest independent radio networks as the Director of Business Development. He was instrumental in helping to secure a broadcast license for Canada's first all Blues radio station. He is also an Independent Marketer partnered with an exciting company that is making waves in the Energy Industry and Home Essential Services. Personal Development is his passion and he strives to motivate and inspire everyone who comes in contact with.
