Roma, 1589, veröffentlichten. Sie haben sich nicht: so sdavisch an ihr classisches Muster gebunden wie Dati. Nach den Principien dieser Schule, über welche mancherlei, wenn schon nicht völlig hin reichende Auskunft die bei Carducci im Anhang abgedruca rcgolctte della nuova pocsia tosccma geben, sollen allerdings die Verse nach der Quantität gemessen werden, aber nach der italienischen, nicht nach der lateinischen, und die erstere ist ziemlich unabhängig von der letzteren tes estellt. Die Grundlage bildet die Länge der mitionssilq. Welche in der That 'a auch fiir das Italienische keine imaginäre ist. N der betonten ersten Silbe eines zwei oder dreisübigen Wortes sind lang. 6 kurs (also ganz abweichend von der Etymo logie). A, i, u nach Belieben kurz oder lang (omas); beginnt das Wort aber vocalisch, so wird die lange Silbe wmune, die comme kurz. Die tonlosen Ausleute dieser Worte sind sämmtlich kurz. Dati's Verse wären daher nach Tolomei's Auffassung ganz falsch gewesen. Hierzu kommen dann eine Reihe willkürlicher Festsetzungen; die betonte zweite Silhe dreisilbi r Worte soll stets lang sein; zwei vocalischc Sil on. Deren erste bc tont ist. Bilden. Wo sie für eine Silbe zählen, eine Kürze: mia, cüi, u. Dgl. M. Hier hatte man eben keinen festen Boden, auf dem man hätte bauen können. Manche Bestimmungen, besonders die Menge der audpitas machte der Character der Sprache nöthig, wenn man sich nicht zu drückende Fesseln auflegen wollte. Indessen. Auch, wo sie wirklich vorhanden. Waren die italienischen Quan ütätsuntcmhiede nicht stark genug, um aus ihnen einen ausgeprägten Rhythmus zu entwickeln, und wenn dennoch die Verse dieser Dichter für das Ohr durchaus nicht so unerträglich sind, wie man erwarten sollte, so hat das seinen Grund in gewissen Besonderheiten, die sie dem wahren Character der italienischen Metrik annäherten. Die jambischen Verse wurden von selbst zu italienischen versi sciolti piani oder sdruccioli. Die sapphische Strophe bestand gleichfalls im Grunde nur aus italienisch vorhandenen Metren. Drei mehr oder weniger voll kommenen sciolti und einem quinario. Was endlich den häufigsten Vers, den Hexarneter betrifi't, so muss man bedenken, dass die Italiener die lateini schen Verse nach dem Wortmcente allein lesen und lesen; in den letzten beiden Füssen des Hexa rueters pflegt aber Wort und Versaccent zusammen anfallen. Und dieses war die Veranlassung, dass man bei der Nachehmnng meist in der ganzen zweiten Vershälfle nach der Cileur 'ort und Vera. Accent sich decken liess. In der zweiten Hälfte ist also ein solcher Vers gerade so gebaut, wie es bei uns im Deutschen geschieht, und 'bt daher auch nach unserem Begriffe hier den ont'all des Hextnneters ganz wohl wieder.
