El titulo de este libro resume una de las principales lineas de investigacion UCM-CAM , en marcha desde el ano el 2005 y dirigido por el profesor Diez Borque. Desde sus comienzos, los trabajos del Grupo han tenido como objetivo prioritario dar cuenta tanto de la riqueza y difusion de variados y selectos textos de la literatura espanola de los Siglos de Oro como de su recepcion contemporanea y posterior, siempre en el marco de las relaciones entre literatura y sociedad. Factores propios de la produccion literaria de la epoca, como las relaciones entre autor y lector,, autor e impresor, poder y literatura, entre otros, estan presentes en este volumen, que, ademas, persigue un proposito especifico: el avance en el conocimiento de nuestro patrimonio cultural y, por tanto, en los origenes de nuestra historia con especial atencion a Madrid. Este volumen se estructura en seis apartados. El primero se centra en las relaciones entre los fastos organizados y promovidos por la monarquia de los Austrias y la literatura generada a raiz de tales celebraciones. El segundo se dedica a tres dramaturgos que intervinieron de modo significativo en la creacion de obras especificamente destinadas a la celebracion de efemerides regias, en concreto, Rojas Zorrilla, Melchor Fernandez de Leon, seudonimo de Pedro Fomperosa y Quintana, y el gran Lope de Vega. De autores palaciegos vinculados al poder de los Habsburgo se pasa a las celebraciones religiosas de la epoca, intimamente unidas tambien a la monarquia reinante, que ocupan el apartado tercero del volumen. El teatro comico destinado a determinadas celebraciones de la realeza y el propio entorno de la villa y corte ocupa el cuadro apartado, y se distribuye en tres generos teatrales bien definidos: la mojiganga, el entremes y la comedia burlesca. El apartado final, determinado "Varia" , reune trabajos en torno a la percepcion literaria del paisaje de la villa y corte a partir de una alegoria en torno a los cinco sentidos; al peso de la poesia de cancionero en las justas de los Siglos de Oro; y al motivo de la perla disuelta en vinagre disuelta en vinagre que Cleopatra ofrecio a modo de banquete a Marco Antonio en uno de sus proverbiales convites y los avatares literarios del suceso en la cultura hispanica de los Siglos de Oro. El libro se cierra con un estudio centrado, por una parte, en un examen de los discursos de interpretacion y analisis filologico del espectaculo efimero unido al poder en la Espana aurea; y, por otra, en la disquisicion acerca de las genealogias y tiempos de vigencia de paradigmas cognitivos que han acabado por construir el concepto de "fiesta del antiguo Regimen" como un objeto academico de primera magnitud.
