L'ISOLA DEI MORTI - AMORE E PERDIZIONE
Una storia che travalica i limiti del genere e incontra lettori di ogni tipo.

Anno 1885. Andrea Nascimbeni è un antropologo veronese che si reca sulla cosiddetta "isola dei morti", al largo della costa ligure di Zoagli, dopo averne viste rappresentate le "esotiche" strutture funerarie nei dipinti dell'amico Arnold Böcklin. L'intento di innovare i suoi studi, lo immerge nella soffocante atmosfera della cittadina senza nome, dove l'architettura destinata ai trapassati riceve maggiori attenzioni di quella dei viventi.
Il delirio lo avvolge ora dopo ora, forse provocato dai numerosi sinistri misteri in cui si imbatte. Nemmeno la febbre può, però, impedirgli di rintracciare i sepolcri aperti e nascosti alla vista di visitatori fortuiti. Esacerbato dai segreti dell'isola e dall'omertà dei suoi abitanti, Nascimbeni trova un momentaneo conforto solo in una donna, della quale si invaghisce. Nulla è però come sembra e l'incontro con un uomo avvolto dal mistero lo mette sul chi va là, quando lo invita ad abbandonare l'isola.
L'antropologo, tuttavia, s'ingegna per rimanervi nascosto fino alla vicina festa del "32" ottobre, come viene scherzosamente definita dalla locandiera che lo ospita, perché sa che si tratta del momento in cui potrà capire quali strani riti funerari si celebrano in quel luogo. L'esperienza sull'isola diverrà talmente insostenibile, da provocare il suo abbandono della professione.

FABRIZIO VALENZA, conosciuto per il romanzo fantasy Storia di Geshwa Olers e i numerosi romanzi horror (gli ultimi due, Codice infranto e Trasmissione inversa, pubblicati per i tipi di Dunwich Edizioni), propone con L'isola dei morti una storia gotica ambientata a fine Ottocento, dove la fede nella scienza si scontra con la fede nel soprannaturale.
