Este texto es también llamado: El Gran Rollo de Melquisedec, ya que en su estado original está compuesto por siete rollos cosidos entre sí.

El Libro de Melquisedec es un manuscrito hallado entre los rollos del Mar Muerto, específicamente en la Cueva Once. La historia es una revelación que Melquisedec recibió por medio de "un ángel luminoso" o ángel de Luz, y la cual estuvo él registrando en esos rollos durante seis años.

Este manuscrito es un comentario desde una perspectiva apocalíptica del año del Jubileo según Levítico capítulo veinticinco. Este texto está escrito originalmente en el idioma hebreo, y su fecha de escritura se ubica en el siglo I antes de Cristo.

Melquisedec, rey de Salem, es uno de los personajes más importantes de la literatura sagrada. Es supremamente interesante, su aparición en el Libro de Génesis capítulo catorce, y luego como la Epístola a los Hebreos lo presenta como una Cristofania.

Los comentaristas de la Tora, enseñan que Melquisedec (con frecuencia asociada con Sem) recibió el derecho de ejercer el sacerdocio de su padre Noé.

Mientras que, la identificación o asociación del Melquisedec con el Mesías se debe a enseñanzas anteriores al cristianismo, que se desarrollaron durante el mesianismo judío, en el tiempo del segundo templo en la ciudad de Jerusalén.

De igual modo, el pan y el vino ofrecidos por Melquisedec a Abraham han sido interpretados desde tiempos antiguos como una prefiguración de la Cena del Señor practicada en la iglesia primera, según el libro de los Hechos de los apóstoles en la Biblia.
